Just bought tickets to Thailand. I should say airfare only. I will be going for 3 weeks in April and want to know if anyone here has gone before? I am also thinking of a few days in Cambodia.
If you have gone what did you like the most? Any tips?

I don't know how old you are, or what you find fun, but my brother who is 26 now went for 2 months, a few years ago and he absolutely loved it. He still talks about it to this day. From what I can remember he talked about Full Moon parties on the magnificent beaches. Supposedly they are loads of fun. Also, check out a Thai boxing match. My mom was there a few months ago, she loved it aswell. I am not sure what to tell you from what they've said to me, but I would expect you to check out the scenery, the many, many ancient artifacts/locations/temples/cultures, but do not forget to have a shot of Snakes blood for all of us!

As many others have said, watch your money and always look out for your safety. Best of luck and enjoy your trip, let us know how it was when you get back.

EDIT: Yes, also stay away from the women as VWSM has said. Lots of tranny's + diseases + thieves. ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME.

it is a beautiful place, but it's easy to find trouble as well.

                  Im assuming your backpacking?

A friend of mine went not too long ago and he freaking loved it. Do yourself a favor and find out where they taped the movie "the beach" and hire a boat to take you out there. My friend said it was amazing.

As for safety, don't worry too much about it. He told me he never felt threatened. Just be smart about it. If you flash your money around, act disrespectful, walk alone in areas you shouldnt be in, your asking for it.

Always do the buddy system when you can and have an extra wallet on you with $20-$40 in it to hand over in case you get held-up by some thug.

                      Re: Thailand

I am 29 and am going with people from work. Everyone is mature and respectful of others. I am backpacking. I am not one who likes planned tours. Now I have ran into a few people who swear back packing is the way to go. They also have said nothing bad about it. A good friends mom is a Thai immigrant to Canada. She also swears once I go, I wont go anywhere else. At the same time tourism has tripled in the last 2 years.

I will be spending most of my time in the jungle/plains in central and northern Thailand. The last week will be spent on the beach in Southern area, Maybe 1-2 days in Bangkok.

I am well aware of the Tranny's. They do nothing for me here and I am sure they will do nothing for me there. (Yes there are many in Alberta). I am not a 'chump', and in a foreign country I am respectful of their way of life. I dont plan on getting shot and the activities pertaining to such a life style I left behind many moons ago. Such things as wild parties on the beaches in Southern Thailand I will be staying away from. They are traps for drugs, theft, tranny's(lol) and most of all poor treatment by the local police(as would be expected).

Thanks for the wallet tip. Any others?

I am having no luck at finding a power converter. Any ideas? Last resort would be ebay. I would like to see visually the quality of such a thing before I buy.

Did you pick up a copy of Lonely Planet Thailand? If not, do so. It will be your bible.

I used my lonely planet book alot when I went to Central America.
