  • Photo Bank

My dad is currently on vacation in Africa and between both his digital cameras he has been taking lots and lots of pictures.

He took with him a Smartdisk Photo bank to store all his pictures, well the other night he dropped it on the floor with a CF card in the photo bank, this caused a pin to bend in the photo bank (the pins that plug into the CF card are exposed on the side) well my dad was trying to straighten the pin one broke off.

Well long story short my question is, if the smart disk is saying the pictures are transferring over should he be worried about the data not being completely copied over? Are there pins just used for alignment in a CF card?

I do have a tech call into Smart Disk

From what I can tell (via e-mail) he broke pin 50, which should be gnd pin. If that is case it should already be getting a ground from pin 1 and maybe alright.

Tell him to copy a pic from the card to the bank, put the card in his camera, delete the pic from the card, put it back in the bank and transfer the pic back to the card, then put the card back in the camera and see of the pic is ok!

There should be multiple ground pins and losing one of them is not going to cause a problem.
