  • Cuba vs Cancun

    I am planning to go for the vocation probably next week, but I am still debating Cuba or Cancun. I would like to know which would be better option and why. If somebody knows a good hotel to stay, that would also help me. Thanks

    I have been told a few stories of vacations that went bad in Cuba, I went to Cancun a month ago and had a great time.

      Sandals resort in Cuba would be a good choice. Instead of Cancun consider playa del carmin or cozumal which are just as nice but not nearly as crowded.

        My warm weather vacation of choice

        My Dad has been to Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican and had pretty good times at all, one of the biggest complaints with Cuba has been the food.

            Yes the food in Cuba is mediocre at best, but the rum is excellent.

                Re: Cuba vs Cancun

                It really depends what your looking for. I have been to both and they are both very good but in different ways.

                If your looking for more of a cultural experience, I would recommend Cuba. I loved the beaches in Veradero and the culture/scenery in Havana was amazing. Please keep in mind that Cuba does not have all of the conveniences that you may desire due to the trade blocks placed on the country. They do the best they can with what they have.

                If your looking for more of a american style vacation with all of the conveiniences that you desire, i would recommend Cancun. Cancun is a great place to party and has many things to do. The biggest downfall is its lack of culture and cost.

                  I have been to both and was just in Cuba last x-mas,

                  Food = Alright
                  Drinks = Good
                  Beach = Good
                  Sights = Very good, going into some of the big cities is really cool, so you can go have you time in the sun on the beach but also see some cool sights.
                  People = Very nice

                  I also think Cuba could change a bit in the next few years, not to say that it will be totally different or anything but right now it is a total time warp in some spots.

                    All said and done... staying at a similiar rated resort.. both places will be very similiar. One thing to think about though.. how muhc longer ofa flight is it to Cuba as opposed to Mexico?

                      good idea. my wife and i went to playa del carmen for our honeymoon last year. it was awesome.

                      it's only about an hour south of cancun, which we never went to.
                      you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

                        Re: Cuba vs Cancun

                        I have been to mexico 5 times and it seems every time i go it get's a little more dirty, a little more expensive. I went to dominican and I thought it was great. The people are so much more friendly, always have smiles on their faces and had an awesome time, it's also cheaper if i am remembering correctly. Also a couple dollars tip goes a long way there. I can't remember where in Domincan I went but there are 2 parts and one of them is better than the other. I have never been to cuba and have no desire to, I don't know why.

                        Playa del carmen was probably the nicest place I have been in mexico. Puerto Vallarta was good too.

                        I think to really have the best time, you have to have a hotel that is fun. I went with my friend last year to a resort that didn't have any pool games or special activities, no music at the pool and no one really interesting to talk to. In my experience it's been all about the hotel atmosphere because that's probably where you'll spend most of your time, if you're like me. So my advice is no matter where you go, just find a hotel that has a good rep if you want to have the most fun and meet nice people.

                        I stayed at Barcelo Maya near Playa del carmen and it was the best hotel I've stayed at. Really great fun, but this was years ago. Puerto Vallarta is also nice but its on the West coast of mexico. Anywhere in the Mayan Riviera is probably nice, and its a little south of Cancun.

                        I haven't really heard anything about Cuba and don't know anything about it, but I hope I've helped explain a little about Mexico for you.

                          I would agree that Mexico keeps getting dirtier. To me I hate the fact that other than on the resorts the country is a **** hole. I can't stand how corrupt it is. Oh well! For me if I want somewhere warm to go to I'll go back to Hawaii. Otherwise I'm travelling within our country!

                            Re: Cuba vs Cancun

                            I've been to both Cuba (Varadero) and Cancun.

                            Food is Cuba is a little bland due to trade embargos with the US. I also found Cuba night life to be less exciting.

                            Both Cuba and Mexico are poor countries, the average Cuban makes something like $12 US per month.

                            If you are into seeing all sorts of things, there are many options of Mayan ruins around Cancun, the only travel we did within Cuba was to visit the capital city Havana. An amazing city, we should have spent a couple of days there.

                            If you are after the night life and ladies in bikinis, then I would say Cancun. Cuba would be more of a relaxation trip.
