      There is a story I read in the past about a fellow that lived beside a transformer station. He coiled a huge amount of wire in the shed by the edge of the property and recovered enough energy to power most of his house. Everything was fine and dandy will the power company found out.

        Myth busters tried to do this, it was busted though.

          I did see that episode but they didn't do it next to a transformer station (just high voltage lines). There is more current in a switching station therefor a larger electromagnetic field. I still wouldn't be a huge current but there would be a bit more there.
