Are you kidding me cops never break the law. Especially not traffic laws like when you always see them doing 10-20-30km's over the speed limit without their lights on, or my personal fav. when the light turns red and the cop turns on his lights so he doesn't have to stop and wait with all the other commoners, then just turns them off after the intersection and carries on his/her merry way. F$@#ers!

What does any of this have to do with green light cameras. This thread went down the drain right about when someone said corvettes shouldn't have to abide by the law.

that's the point i was getting at. and i agree with you. lead by example. i'm sure we have all seen this scenario. that's why i matched his speed since it looked as though he himself had no regard for the limit.

i also like seeing them on their cell phones or laptops driving while their partners just sit in the pass seat staring out the window.

this whole thread has to do with green light cameras and also the alternatives we see that could result in better control of, or reduction of accidents. that's why we are discussing it. other wise the thread would read:

i agree. i don't agree. i somewhat agree. they are a good idea. they are a bad idea. they are somewhat of an idea.

Here is part of the email I received after sending an email to the Calgary police about seeing police officers driving while talking on cell phones:
"Our officers are very well aware of the hazards of multi tasking while driving, unfortunately this is one of the many tools they utilize while protecting the citizens of Calgary. I would like to think that our officers are role models and do not use their cells phones while driving unless it is unavoidable."
I have seen it more then once and it didn't look safe at any time. They make hands free sets for a reason and if the police need their cell phones so bad f*%#in buy it for them.

no, they shouldn't. i think it's a reasonable use of tax dollars. maybe then they wont give off the impression that they are above the law and lead by example. alot better than cameras to tell you that you are going with the flow of traffic through a green light. speeding bad, distractions while driving are ok? if i go through a light at an 80 zone, with a cop beside me, doing 100, does he get a ticket also? if he's just in the same group?

i guess the light thing is ok if it means that police/gov can show a definite result or reduction, and if it means there are less cops doing speed traps and more busting up dealers and hookers in my neighborhood, and others.

I had a red light ticket about 3 months ago. I looked over at my girlfriend for a second on a green I look back and its red and i cant stop. Now when I got it in the mail, it said my speed on it already. I guess all they have to do is switch it over to take the photos on greens, which is just another thing to worry about while driving.

Re: One step closer to Speed on Green cameras

Honestly, I don't think there is going to be a sudden surge in the amount of tickets issued, most people slow down through intersections if they are going above the limit, it's the smart thing to do. Also, I believe the way these thing work are with sensors placed in the road. You would more then likely have to be the only one in the picture and if you were'nt it would appear to be very unreliable. So if your moving at the the flow of traffic just like with the radar van you should'nt get a ticket. The only people that should be at risk are the people speeding ahead of the pack.

+ 11km/h is the limit, you should be able to drive by a photo van +10km/h with no ticket.

I think that is part of the problem here lol everyone's spedo's seem a little out of confifuration. + 10 is reasonable. I tend to believe that it is set to 11 given the fact that if everyone was being issued a ticket for speeding 1km over it would really back up the court system.

Sigh. It is set based on the 85th percentile (again). Multinovas are not allowed to ticket more than 15% of the drivers passing by. But it's ok break the law by a little bit, just not a lot. :P
