had a friend take a job at the city after working in private industry. she had to quit cause she couldn't handle getting flack for working too hard, doing what she though was a honest day's work.

They must have done a recruiting fair and had a short bus make a wrong stop and somehow have hired all of them.

OK, just to get back to the topic at hand for a second (the drainage grate on Memorial Drive).

I spoke to a friend of mine who is "in the know" about these kinds of things and, as I suspected, grates can be shimmed to come up to being flush with the pavement. The way to go about making this happen is to call 311 and make a complaint. I doubt that anybody would get told "job's done, too bad". So, let's stop the complaining about City workers for a few minutes, and call 311 and make a complaint. I'm betting that if 4 or 5 of us were to call, we may see some action. I'll even call myself.
