    Re: Door speakers

So your amp is 4 x 30watts and the speakers are rated for 60watts max? I personally would go for the Polk's, they seem to be making a better set of speakers then they use too.

The amp is 4x30watts at 4 ohms, I believe the speakers are 2 ohms, which should technically double the amp draw, so theoretically 60watts/channel. The speakers are rated for 90watts RMS, 250 peak....

          Re: Door speakers

Then you will have no problems. The only thing you have to worry about is seriously under driving large speakers (mostly subs). I bet they are still 4ohm speakers as it is usually the impedance of the crossover that the amp sees.

Polk db's are 4 ohms, Infinity 6020's are 2 ohms.......soooooo.......whats the best route to take? Will it be not enough power with the 4 ohm set? would it be better to use the 2 ohm set to get more out of the amp?? ugh....I'm so confused, haven't done this for 10 years now...I really don't want to buy 2 amps.....that Phoenix has been wired up bridged on 1 channel with 2 DVC subs on it and it ran stable....its my understanding the pheonix will run down to 0.5ohm stable ...Anyhow, I meant to say voice coils wired in parallel before, thats how they are now...

That amp is amazing, 30 watts is a little conservative for that unit... it is almost bullet proof and very musical.

Yes, phoenix and zapco were 2 of the most notable of the "cheater amps", creating huge power under loads effortlessly....Thats why I hung onto it for the last 12 years! Considering a Zapco for the sub amp still, or maybe a nice Soundstream reference series....mmmmm....now I'm dating myself...

                  Re: Door speakers

You should see my beauty of an amp, an orion HCCA225, now that thing is old and stable down to 0.5 ohm lol
                  http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Orion_HCCA225/
You can under power small speakers, the only problem is under driving subs. If the amp doesn't have enough power to move a voice coil properly the voice coil will not move enough air to cool properly and will burn out. Since small higher freq speakers have a much smaller moving mass it isn't as much of a problem.

                    Re: Door speakers

I'll start with that and see how it works....still undecided on the speakers though, I'm thinking either or are good, I'll just see what I can get....Also browsing ebay still for an amp, lots of good stuff on there for a great price!! I've heard alot of good things about hifonics too

I haven't heard much about Hifonics but from the couple reviews I have seen, it looks like they have come a long way from where they use to make.

                        Re: Door speakers

Ok, purchased door speakers. Went with Infinity Kappa 60.7cs components for the front, and Infinity Kappa 62.7i coax's for the rears. These are a step up from the 6020cs and the 6221 coax's I was looking at, and for only about $15 dollars more on Ebay, the otherwise $200 difference in the sets (combined) I think was well worth it.

I was really leaning towards the Polk db's, but their lack of availablity on Ebay was one factor, and the Infinities are 2ohm sets, so they make my amp more useful!!

Let me know how this goes, I need a setup for my Cayman soon, not sure what I will get, I suppose I will need a multichannel amp, speakers, monoblock amp and a sub.

                                Re: Door speakers

So not to Hijack but I found this out about my CS. What do you experts think I should do for a replacement setup? This really sounds like ass. I want it to look stealth/oem though so I'm worried about the speaker sizes?

                                The following loudspeakers are used:

                                • Dashboard:
                                2x 19-mm/ 0.7 in. tweeters
                                1x 70-mm/ 2.8 in. mid-range loud- speaker (center speaker)
                                • Door:
                                2x 100-mm/ 3.9 in. mid-range loud- speakers
                                2x 200-mm/ 7.9 in. low-range loud- speakers
                                • Rear side:
                                2x 100-mm/ 3.9 in. mid-range loud-speakers

The tweeters and mid-range loudspeakers are powered by the 2 x 25-W power amplifier integrated in the CDR-24 CD-radio.

An additional, external analog amplifier accommodated in the luggage
                                compartment powers the low-range speakers (2 x 70 W) and the center
                                speaker (40 W).
