  • Adult beginner hockey school.

Anyone know of a hockey school for adult beginners? I am looking to get into hockey. But I can't find any schools that offer a beginner class. Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

There are many but they fill up FAST. U of C has several Beginner/Int programs throughout the year.

I've been learning from a group at work, some of which have taken the lessons and they can't say enough good about them. There's also a really good hockey specific school but I forget the name; I'll look it up at work.

Also depends if you can skate. And by that I mean skate forwards and backwards, stop on either edge etc. Cause the hockey lessons are pointless until you can get those down.

Step 1: Get good at skating. If you're not already, you need to practice, and you probably don't need lessons. Just go to public rink time and rip it up for a couple hours a couple times a week.

Step 2: When you are awesome at skating, you can skate around with a stick and see how it changes your balance. Remember to keep your stick on the ice. Also maybe practice your shots.

Step 3: Play with some friends. Heck they're your friends so they don't care if you suck.

Note: I made this up, I don't actually play hockey.

The last time I put skates on was two years ago and that was for about an hour. I was wobbly on the skates. The last time I played shinny with friends was about seven years ago. I sucked... but I could skate forwards, backwards and stop on one side.
I'm not looking to be the worlds greatest beer league player, I just want to go out and have fun and be good enough to be a asset to a team not a detriment. I need a school that will teach me ground up skills starting with skating.

I play in div 4 of the hna, they have something like 15 or 16 divs this year so there is a wide range of hockey. I would suggest that you work on your skating a lot, and then next summer go to the hna draft... if you can skate well you will get picked up.

They have a draft?! Whoa, I thought you just paid your money and you get chucked on a team equal to your playing skil... Damn, that's cool. If you don't mind me asking, how much is the fee?

                      Re: Adult beginner hockey school.

Calgary is hna biggest market from what I can tell so they do a draft each year, it is used as a way to rate your skill and give teams the chance to get some better players. You go out to the draft and they do an open skate and then a game, they then rate your playing ability and put you up for the draft. IE a player rated as a div 2 can not play on a div 10 team etc.

I am paying $500 for 35 games or something.

The top teams from div 1-3 can go to Vegas to play in the finals and Div 3-16 can go to T.O to play in the finals there.

i play HNA and UofC hockey.

The drop in shinny is actually pretty high level hockey, the pace is not as fast as the games I play in but everyone who comes out is pretty good. Pond time is going to be your best bet because unfortunately there aren't many places that cater to beginners im sorry to say.
