    Re: Interview tips?!

    Communication
    Customer Focus
    Empathy
    Flexibility
    Persuasion
    Relationship-Building
    Results Focus
    Team Focus

There's the list of the position's competencies.

Since my current position is basically this new position but entirely on the phone, I've got many many examples of communication type situations - customers with accents and such.

For Empathy, we do a lot of declining, and get a lot of pissed/disappointed customers so I have some solid examples of that.

Flexibility - Just yesterday the hiring Manager asked if I would drive to CANMORE the next day, I figure that'd be a pretty good example of flexiblity? We also work shifts varying from 7am-3pm to 1pm-9pm, and I've worked many hours of overtime on Saturdays.

Persuasion - My current job is sales based, I also did 6 months on our outbound team making telemarketing calls to try and sell pre approved credit - I'm very persuasive.

Results Focus - Everything based on goals/results at my current position

Team Focus - Lots of team building activites here, since we work as one sales team or unit..

Sorry about the novel just wanted to get that out of my head and written down to get ideas flowing. If you have any good examples of questions for any of the above competencies don't hesitate to let me know.

    Thanks guys!
I'd like to make a statment!

If you were a tree, which would you be, and why?

(Real question believe it or not). Dealing with strange questions isn't about the answer, it's how you answer.

Or a technical question that you couldn't possibly get right, simply to see how you deal with it.

Don't ramble. Watch the interviewer for body language. Do not be late, not even 1 minute.

        Re: Interview tips?!

Just got a new job yesterday, and my interview went really well.
        As mentioned:

        - Be there 10 min early.
        - Dress well, but as Kris mentioned... make sure it's comfortable.
        - Keep answers to the point.
        - Don't be afraid to show some humour (just not too much).
        - Ask questions about the job - It shows you actually care.
        - Make decent eye contact.

                      Re: Interview tips?!

                      mitch,
as you know i just got a new position, but spent the last 6 months in interviews and last year was on the other side of the table doing hiring.

All of the questions companies ask are behavioural based. You can google this and find a list of examples of the types of questions.
It will be like 'tell us about the last time you had to work in a group and there were problems'.
To answer these you need to have a couple of stock examples in your head you pull from. What I would do is tell them the situation and what I did, and then build off of that and pull in the skills I have and other bits of experiance I have. You kind of use it as a speech button item, answering the question and then expanding on it.

If you have never done one of these interviews I suggest doing some research on examples of questions. After a little practice you will get 4 or 5 examples you can pull from to answer almost any question and you can just slay the interview.
Confidence speaks VOLUMES about a potential employee. Take a second to think about you answer and answer in a confident manner. If you can convey you know what you are talking about and are comfortable it will to wonders.
