      Re: Japan?

I have been to Japan but it was quite a few years back, so far back that I was playing Neo Geos and buying super small cassette walkmans

I am not sure what is cheap but the electronics are amazing but she will have to spend some time looking!

I've been.. 3 years ago. Japan and the word "CHEAP" dont really go together... you may be able to get some cool clothes... but sizing is tough.

Yeah...its expensive as hell, i was there a few years back.

You can get a wii or something, but they read euro-discs and not the NA ones i thought? It was like that for the ps2 games when i was there anyways

Yes Japanese (and all) Wii's are region locked. There might be some cool MP3 players or something but remmeber their power is also different to really nothing you buy will be easy to use here.

I was thinking she could pick me up a cool GSM phone of some sort... Something you don't see here. Would that work, if I could unlock it?

                      Re: Japan?

phone would work fine... power could be a challenge. I brought home a HDD-DVD-r from HK last month, and have had all sorts of problems. (Coaxial cable is different, as is power supply) I found a place that will fix it all... but still a hassle.

                        Re: Japan?

actually..i dont know how well a phone would work even... i mean, it will work, but not as intended... Alot of the phones you get over there broadcast at 1900...I ordered a phone from KL and it worked on 900mhz but the quality was absolute **** and it dropped calls like a madman.

for phones, power isnt THAT much of an issue as most decent phones are capable of charging via USB and you can easily buy an adaptor.

As long as the phone is at least tri-band.. you should be ok. Quad would be what you want though.....

check with rogers/fido and see which bands they use. then when you look at the phones there, just find one that matches the ones they use here.
