  • Installing iPOD Hardwire

I bought the iPOD2Car hook up from Futureshop but have been reading on AZ and AW and there seems to be problems when hooking these up.

    Issues include:

    - Battery disconnect
    - HU disconnect for longer than 15 sec
    - CD Changer not working anymore (I have Symphony II)
    - VAG-COM functions needing to be 're-learned' (ie. lock/unlock, auto windows, etc.)

This would suck because my install for sub, amp and iPOD will be done on Wednesday and I leave for Seattle on Thursday and I want to run everything with no issues.

I would obviously disconnect the battery because not doing so would be pretty stupid. Maybe if I do that first it won't become a domino effect with everything going crazy?!

Any experience? Sounds rediculous to me - but this is my first German

    not 100% sure

battery issue should be fine if car > 2002.5 the security code is stored in convenience module.

relearning: put key in driver door lock, lock car, unlock car- let all windows roll down, lock car - let all windows roll up. That's supposed to do it.

thought the hard wire connection replaced the CD changer input. If you need CD changer, use FM modulation or something to switch between ipod and changer.
    put.......put.......

    .... ... .. .

My car is a 2002 so I guess we'll see about the security code being stored.

ASAIK the iPOD hardwire fools the HU into thinking there is an external CD drive. Technically you should be able to toggle between both settings. Only reason is because I have TONS of CDs and are not of great use since my HD crashed and I lost all my songs.

Aside: Unless somebody can tell me who can fix it?

Fix your HD? Stick it in the freezer for a bit (google it). It usually gives it enough life to get everything off of it. I don't see how you could toggle between the changer and the ipod unless the changer harness plugs into the ipod adapter then the adapter into the head unit.

I called some data recovery places and they advised me that this is a no win situation as condensation will occur and if the data was once recoverable it will not be anymore.

Minimum cost for data recovery is 300-500.

Symptoms: Turned off computer. Went to turn back on and error message came up saying something to the effect of unable to connect via LAN....
