I think another way to go about it is the ole 3 strikes your out. If you commit 3 offences worth x ammount of demerits then your car should be taken away for a year, not just your license cut up but your car removed from the owners pssoesion. It would cost a bit to store these cars somewhere so there should be a massive fine to follow as well to cover these costs. I am a huge supporter of taking cars away for serious repeat fenders because as liquid noted, not having a license doenst translate to not driving for some. If you dont have a car you can't drive now can you.
Also, like someone else said, I would be willing to bet a lot of the street racing is done is mommy and daddies cars.
I really doubt the popo would ever be in a position to take away your car becasue its "modded" especially when cars are getting more and more h/p everyday from the factory. Ha because now my 2L is more dangerous because it has a CAI. In fact I bet its more dangerous then some 16 yr old kid flying around in his daddies bimmer.
idkwtf the big deal with street racing is, it seems simple to me, have harsh laws for people caught outright street racing. If you get caught you get your license suspended for a year. If you cause someone else bodily harm while street racing then you have your license pulled for life. If you kill someone and survive you get charged with murder.
Who cares if you kill yourself doing something stupid, just like hitting motor bikers with ridiculous fines and sh!t, when the only person they will hurt is them self. The police shouldn't be used for protecting people from them self.
This crushing your car because you might street race it stuff is insanity. It's so vague it's not even funny. If I was in Ontario I would be raising some hell on this one.
Um. If your on public owned roads follow the rules. Pulling peoples license doesnt really do much. Removing the car that they cannot drive due to the suspensded licesnse goes one step further in immobilizing the driver.
In regards to bikes. In very few cases on public streets is a driver only endangering themsleves. Even if that is the case they may be only endangering themselves however when the police and fire dept. have to come pick up the mess it is a waste of ressources due to a drivers negligence.
Actually the idea for that law was announced more than a year ago. Last year they said if you race you loose the car and get some jail time. The problem is because there are just too many modded cars. For ex. every 100th car here is "modded" (lowered on rimz). In Toronto, every 2nd or 3rd car is lowered with rimz. Then pretty much more than 90% of those cars have CAI and exhaust. Then majority of those cars would be civics, which pretty much all have JDm engines swap and so on. I mean, if you want to chack that, go to www.autotrader.ca and select Ontario, every civic is either b or H series JDM swap. Every night, every tim hortons it is like car show, hundreds gather up and race.
I understand that cops had to do something to prevent racing, but I think they went 2far.
Two years ago i got pulled over and got over $2000 tickets fine, I wasn't speeding. Before they even open my hood, I had close to $1000. One for the exhaust, improper display of plates, and for lowering. When they opened the hood, another for the CAI, turbo, 1.8 engine swap, etc. So I had to sell the car to pay the tickets...
People that spent 5-6k on the cars will have to get rid off them ASAP. That means yuo can get ship from Ontario to Alberta nice ride already done, CHEAP!!!
Unless they're planning to bring those laws over here...???
It's not that simple - there is no law requiring you to buy OEM parts to replace existing parts. The car manufacturers are not allowed to force this, and neither is the state. However there are laws specifically about exhaust outlet diameter, lowering your bumper more than X inches (or raising it) the lighting, etc. So for sure they can tag you for those. Pay to play.
The biggest problem I see is the same argument against death penalties - you give them NO incentive to pull over. The car is getting crushed, they are going to jail. You think I'm going to stop? Hell no - escape until someone crashes.
And defining racing is impossible. Everyone pictures Fast and Furious and thinks that's it but no! If I pass a guy on the highway and he speeds up to keep pace - we're racing. I'm at a light, and I go, the other guy guns it to keep his lane - we're racing.
All the while, the politician's drunk family and drunk friends and drunk collegues get to drive around killing people and get a slap on the wrist.
