List your top 3 priorities for a tire in order then I will make some suggestions.KR

I am looking for a Summer Tire, Good handling (I'm not tracking my car so it does not have to be the BEST), Looking for a nice ride. My rims are 17x8Last edited by Russell; 06-26-2007, 10:52 AM.2001.5 Audi S4

You should get the same tires you have on the back...KR

Re: Tires
The rims did not come with the same tires on the front and back, the fronts are 17x8 and the back is 17x9. Considering I just bought a house I really was not looking to buy a set of new tiers, but on moving day (Saturday) I got a flat that can not be fixed.2001.5 Audi S4

Re: Tires
If you are in such a situation then your #1 criteria for tires is price. You would be MUCH better off with 4 cheaper new tires than 2 better tires and 2 worn out different brand tires.
Even considering handling or performance of the tire, if you are only gonna get 2, is probably a waste. You are not gonna get good handling or a nice ride with 2 totally worn tires and 2 new tires with different characteristics front to back?
I would say pick these up:
Kumho 711 225/45R17 $119 ea from 1010tires. 4 will run you $476
They are probably a pretty decent tire anyway, historically Kumhos aren't too bad.
Compare this to what I would consider to be a "good" tire for the budget, you would be looking at at least $175 for Kumho SPT's or $200-$220 each for Kumho MX's, or BFG's
So for the price of 2 (~$400-$450) you can get 4.
Or look for used tires.
We will need the tire sizes (NOT wheel size) to really help you find the right size....
Sometimes there are used tires on beyond.Last edited by Kor; 06-26-2007, 12:44 PM.KR

Re: Tires
Pretty sure the 2nd number is some sort of ratio based on the first number. So a 255/45/17 is a different sidewall height than 225/45/17, even though the 2nd number is the same. That's why sizing is such a pain.
Also, your best tires should always be on the rear, FWD, RWD or AWD it doesn't matter. Understeer easier to correct than oversteer. You definately should get a set of 4 value all seasons and be done with it.Geoff
