  • Camera Recommendations?

Anyone know of a decent digital camera in the 500-550 range? I am thinking of the Canon S230 (3.2MP like peter's old S400 but just lower MP) or the Canon A70 (3.2 just not as small or fancy)
I was also checking some Fujis but they use some new X something or other media i've never seen for some reason and sonys use the dumb gum stick so i'm not touching those.

Any opinions are welcome since i'll probably grab one tommorow afternoon while my car is in for 8k.

I'd say reconsider what you want it for. No need to spend 500+ if you don't need to.

2mp is tons unless you want 8x10s and larger printed. Digital Zoom is ******** it doesn't mean anything. The more optical zoom you get the better.

Also the lens size matters for color clarity and brightness. Fuji/Cannon/Olympus have bigger ones.

Buy a 256 meg card, you can hold 500+ high qual pics. Get a camera that uses AA batteries - you might be in another country when your bats die.

I got a fuji 2650 - does everything I need. If you need/want more thats fine just make sure you really do otherwise yer just burning mod money.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you have no aspirations to take great photos I'd stick to the 3.3 or less MP's, otherwise you need to begin looking carefully at:

            light metering
            white balance
            auto/part auto/manual modes

Digital cameras are really, really picky on exposure levels and you'll get poor light metering from very inexpensive cameras. Mid range cameras will be able to address most lighting situations and if you insist on taking a properly exposed photos every time you need the availability of full manual mode and multiple options for metering.

My pick for the novice photographer are the nikon 2500's and 3500's. The only limitation with these and othere medium range cameras is that you need to use those mode buttons, they control how the camera meters and ensures you'll get a useful photo. I've used 6 different nikon digicams(2500, 3500, 950, 990, 995, 5000), one kodak(280) and tried a couple canon's(small one's didn't like).

Check out www.dpreview.com and steve's digicams if you really want to research this properly. Example from low end canon: http://img.dpreview.com/gallery/cano...17-1117-27.jpg

            Top end camera:

All cameras are not created equal, if anyone cares...

I have a Kodak 2.something MP cam, I got it on eBay for $50. Can't beat the price. There are TONS of digital cameras on eBay. My only complaint is that it has a low shutter speed, and I have shaky hands. The result: blur. Look into getting one with a quick shutter.
