  • motorbike?

I'm thinking of getting a motor bike in a couple months. Any input on the topic?

I'm thinking along the lines of a 600 cbr or a gsxr. I've also never owned a bike before if that makes any difference.

cant go wrong with a cbr 600, great all rounder, the gsxrs were a bit peaky when i rode them which is about 5 years ago now so they may have changed but i doubt it, they are much more performance edge oriented, the CBR will get you great performance and good low speed handling as well. kawasaki 600 are pretty much the same as the CBR if you like green

      Re: motorbike?

I used to owned the gsxr, about 2 years ago and it is definitelly faster than Honda. Also, I say it handles, feels and looks much better. Couple months after, I traded that bike for Yamaha YZF-R1 . See if you have some extra cash, get R1, because maybe this summer 600cc is good enough but already next summer, you'll want something even bigger. Trust me

        Re: motorbike?

I wouldn't recommend that a first time rider get an R1, that thing is a beast!! The CBR600RR is a good starter bike and is pretty comparable to the gixxer 600 as far as handling and speed goes. I do believe that the CBR is a little bit more heavier than then gixxer but not like 15-20 pounds is much. As far as bikes go, I've always liked the CBR's.
        But get a house, lol.
        Got 5?

          Re: motorbike?

Please dont go straight out and get an R1 or similar, give yourself a couple of years riding experience first. Big bets are it will save your life.

The CBR will be plenty for you with the short riding seasons out here it will take you a good while to outgrow it.

Once you get the bike put the best soft rubber on the front you can afford. a good tire will forgive you many mistakes and will let you recover when you go in to hard. That front tire is all you have most of the time!! let it warm up before you start to go hard, my biggest crash was 2 minutes out of the garage when i lost the front end coz the tire was cold.

              Re: motorbike?

one time i called it a motorbike and my biker friend got mad at me.
apparently that is frowned upon - it is a 'motorcycle'.

                this is a "motorbike"...

i agree with Kordain. gain some experience first. i am.
i'm new to bikes too, that's why i have this, and the 90cc behind it. Blair's even taking a scooter course. no 600 anything for me.

                for now!

                    Re: motorbike?

I actually had a CBR 400 as my first bike and that scared me a couple of times, it was so peaky. was a lot of fun though. even withthe longer seasons we had in the uk it still took me 2 years until i felt i was waiting for the next gear change. the roads are different over there though, great twisty wiinding roads with no view round the corner, plenty of knee down action and hard acceleration out the corners Big Big Grins all round.

Piccy attached is my 400, I really enjoyed that one.

If you can control yourself, it won't matter what size bike you get, you'll be ok.
If you're new, Honda is coming out with a 125cc, sportbike trim, riding gear, and 3yr warranty for under 4k I think.

                        It's a good beginning point

I always thought the 1000cc bikes were too much, but rode the repsol and gsxr last year...no problems. I was brainwashed by all the talk 1000 is too much, it's fine as long as you respect it.

If your totally inexperienced on a motorcycle there are good biking school programs you can take in the city. My insurance company made me take one to insure my bike years back and it definately will teach you alot of riding knowledge for the streets that you must have to survive around all the retarded drivers in this city.
