Holy, give the guy a break, this by no means unheard of.

There is a place in the N.E. a friend uses once a year I'll try and get you the # as he really likes them.

                Thanks Jason.

Hopefully someday, the rest of y'all will learn that some people do like to maintain other kinds of tools that automotive tools. Having a professionally sharpened knife makes it far more effective, not to mention much safer.

I guess that if someone isn't asking about cars or toys, this group isn't the place to look for connections / experiences / references.

                  Re: Kitchen Knife Sharpening?

find a good stone, and giver. takes a little finesse, but ya figure it out fast. A sharpening steel (like the sword looking type) will not sharpen a knife with a damaged or nicked blade, but they are good to keep a good knife sharp. The pull through type sharpen a blade fast, but also are pretty quick to ruin a knife cause they take off too much. If you have a knife of any decent quality, you can get it to the point where you can shave with it pretty fast.
I'm sure house of knives or something could do it, or recommend a good place.

the problem i had was finding a stone big enough to be useful.

onions don't make you cry if your knife is sharp

*I tried a few pocket knives and cheap guys before i took the stone the the Henkles...

                    Re: Kitchen Knife Sharpening?

My wife uses a Henkel (sp?) steel for her knives (also Henkels) and she says that's good enough. But a friend of mine just takes his in once a year as he doesn't like to mess around with a steel.

I emailed him, just waiting to hear back.

                            Much better

I do have Henkel's and have a steel for them, but that is just to "hone" them (help straighten any bent tines). However, I've learned the hard way that plastic cutting boards are BAAAAAD and need to get them sharpened.

I'll call some of the suggested places, thanks.

they don't have stones, and those pull though things just aren't worth putting an expensive knife through.
