I'm heading out tomorrow to try and teach my girlfriend how to drive. Anyone know of any good places? Preferably a place where she can get at least into third gear without having to worry about other traffic.
are you out of your mind? crowchild? take her down into the SE to the industrial parks which are completely open road plan design with just square blocks and everything and she can practice all her stopping, starting, turning, indicating the rest. Down near Shepard dump and Deerfoot Casino is the area i am thinking of. There is nothing down there she can hit. Driving on Crowchild is a bad way to learn how to drive, first of all its get in one lane and go, the other is no matter what hour there is always fast moving traffic on it. Not somewhere you want someone to be learning. The industrial park has long enough sections you can get into 3rd and the worst you hit is a crub and 2 fents, and maybe a brush.

lol yea good point actually down in the SE industrial would be good.. especially on a sunday like today.. no big trucks (well not many) and easy roads.. just a bit bumpy
Thanks for the suggestions. We went down just off 114th ave and barlow. It was perfect. Hardly any traffic and she could drive around all the streets. Wasn't even too bumpy... just when you have to go over a sidewalk to get into a parkinglot. The road seemed to be about an inch or two below the curb, sometimes more.
I wasn't too worried about the clutch. I taught her a couple of years ago on my old car before we drove here from Newfoundland. Just in case there was an emergency and I couldn't drive and we were stuck on some highway in the middle of nowhere. So, she just needed somewhere to practice without traffic until she get's a little more comfortable.
