  • Car Shipping Disaster....

    So heres the deal

I bought a car in Vancouver, got a great deal on an A4, then since Im living in Calgary I needed a way to get it back.
Option 1 was to fly back and drive the car back.
Option 2 was to ship it back by Rail.

I Chose option 2 due to the fact that it would be a long drive and I didnt have snow tires. Great, I booked with a specific one, as Ive heard great things about them and spoke to a few people who actually have shipped with them.

My Brother drops the car off at their Annacis Island depot on the 14th of March. I was advised that it should be an 8 consecutive day delivery date, most likely sooner due to the Drop off and Pick up at their Lots.

As you have guessed by this point, the car was not delivered by the specified date, so I started to call them around the 23rd of March. I spoke to a girl at their head office, and was directed to call the "Calgary" depot.
So I did, and got another girl who advised me that "Its not 8 consecutive days, its Business days" So I take what she says with a grain of salt.

So I wait, call back on the 28th of March and get the same girl, who proceeds to throw mad attitude at me. Ok tell me how to get a rental car.....she says to call the claims department.

Up to this point Ive been calm, never yelled, but im obviously pissed. New Car, I would like to be able to drive it.

I call the Claims department, and speak to a guy there. He confirms that it is in fact 8 consecutive days, and that they are having delays due to a mud slid just outside of Kamloops.

Ok, Act of God, I understand. He then proceeds to offer me $$ off the cost of shipping. This is without me even asking. I agree to it, and Im told that I should receive a call on the 2nd of April to pick me car up.

So no call, on the 2nd of April......shocked

So I call into the Claims department this morning, and speak to the Guys again, and he genuinely sounds shocked that I don't have the car yet.
At this point Im suggesting that I should not have to pay for ANY of the shipping, he suggests that I should pay something, but it will be minimal.

    So Here I am
20 days after the car was dropped off at the Lot, still without my car.
I feel like Im being held Hostage by this company.

    Anyone offer any suggestions? Ideas?

      That's horrible news.

I'd really be interested in the name of the company (if they ship from the east as well).

when I was moving down from Toronto, my father was also shipping his car from Toronto by train. Searail said that it will take max 8 business days to arrive to Cagary. After almost entire month waiting, the car finaly arrived and Searail was saying that that it like a regular thing, its happening all the time, etc. When we left there to pick uo the car, I asked them for the car keys, while my father was arguing with some guys there, and just drove off. I got some threatening calls about the court, I didnt pay, etc. after 3 months they dont call us anymore and they never got a since cent from us. Also very important thing is that cops wont get involve in this kind of situation!

Sorry to hear man, nothing like having to wait for your car after it's all been settled and everything. Let's just say I kinda know what your talking about from when I bought my car, I would rather not elaborate on the topic because the party responsible did try to make the situation better.

IMO you can't really get mad with things like a mud slide/avalanche.. tough to blame them with that one.
If they are offering money off their services I would be happy..

I also shipped my car from T.O to calgary with hansens and had no problems at all! Sorry to hear about your wait however at least they have offered to compnsate you for the time! I'd say that shows some decent business procedure there!

                      A little update

I was looking at their website, and happened to look at one of the reference letters and spotted the presidents name. So I emailed him

I got a response from him(within 2 hours) telling me he was going to resolve the issue tommorow.

Now I wait and see what(if any) damage is done to the car, and what kind of compensation I will be getting.
