  • Speeding in a construction zone = bad day

Today is officially one of the worst days I have had in along time. I was driving a friend home in St. Albert when all of a sudden I see a cop walk on to the road gesturing me to pull over. Immediately I think to myself, F#*K.

He gets to the window and he tells me that he was pulling me over for speeding. I was suprised by this and tell him that I was only doing 60km/hr. He then replies that it is a construction zone and that the speed limit is 30km/hr. Please keep in mind that the construction zone is tiny, no one was working, and its in a small neigbourhhood. I then told him that I didn't notice there was a construction zone and that im not from St.Albert. He didn't seem to care to much.

After waiting a few minutes, the officer returns and hands me a $185 ticket for doing 61km/hr in a 30km/hr zone. He told that he could have issued me a ticket for $370 because it was in a construction zone, but he gave me a break.

Now for the really bad news. I ask him if he knew how many demerits this ticket was going to set me back and he answers, 4. To say the least, I was choked. I immediately thought about how high my insurance is gonna go up. Im F#*KED.

Who the hell considers 60Km/hr speeding in any circumstance?

Sorry for the rant, im just really pissed.

Consider, if you didn't see the zone, then you definately wouldn't have seen the worker that fell in front of you either. You are very lucky he didn't give you the x2, but I think he can only do that when there's workers really present.

As for insurance it's usually number of tickets, not the demerits. ING I believe lets you have 3 before raising rates. Mine is at least 1 with no rate change. Just don't get another!

With ING I got 2 demerits and no change, I got another 2 demerits but haven't paid the ticket yet so not sure if they know about it...

Your insurance only goes up if you get more than one ticket per year. Now you're ok but next time your f...ed. I got a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign and thats what the cop told me.

How sure are you of the one per year thing? I don't believe it.

If you take a driving course I think Alberta will knock 3 demerits off your record, its a one time deal, if you've never done it you could do it this summer and be down to 1. Or if you go plead to a lesser charge you can maybe get 2 demerits for the ticket.

Its not such a big deal, just handle it and don't let it slide.

Oh Pabs, you're a saint. You drive a friend home and still no love.

Just take these fellow's advice and fight it. One look from that bald mellon of yours will melt the crowns heart and they'll be easy on ya.

But does this mean you'll drive even slower this summer??
