Got a call from my insurance company in the morning telling me that they are going to cancel my car insurance policy becuase my drivers abstract says that I only have a Class 6 license.
I got my Class 5 in Alberta (Transferred from BC) in 2001 and in 2003 I got my Bike license and when I went to the registry they got rid of my Class 5 and gave me a license that only said "6" for class. I didn't pay attention to the "6" at that time. Since then I have been pulled over by cops in my car who also didn't say anything about me driving a car with a class 6.
I even switched insurance companies and registered my car(s) and this still went ignored up until today.
Looking back, had I gotten into an accident my insurance company now tells me that I would not have been covered becuase I was driving without a valid license. Just a little pissed off now considering it went ignored for this long of a period of time (4 YEARS!!) through so many hands. Luckily nothing serious happened and now I have to go to the registry that made the error and get them to call their motor vehicle specialist (who I spoke with on the phone today) and get it all straightened out. They give me a letter of apology stating I had a valid licence all this time and I pass that on to my insurance company. Until then I've been instructed not to drive.
Just thought I'd share my experience with the registry, I'm definitely paying attention the next time!
