  • Driving without insurance

OK not quite what the title makes you think but this is one ive been thinking about for a while when i start to get my car on the road.

Currently im running around in my crap mobile n the golf is laid up in the garage. it needs some work done (by george) and i was wondering if there is any LEGAL way to drive it up there without having to insure it as well. back home we could use a dealer registration plate, where the garages insurance would cover it if you had an appointment etc but i have no idea over here.

Or would it just be a lot less hassle to insure it and take it up there? actually ill probably be driving it as soon as hes worked on it so that may be the best route but interesting to know if there is a next time.

    Cheers,
    K..

there is some rule if you buy a car, you can drive it on plates from another one of your cars for 3 days or something... so if its your car, ask a family member or friend to buy your car for $1, make the fake sales bill, borrow his plate, and you should be ok for a few days.

Your insurance company should be able to give you 1 day insurance (my friend got it to bring his car to school and it was free). Just explain what you need it for and if they chrage you for it, then its not going to be much money. As for a plate...this is where you'll have to either use an existing plate that you have for that car, or borrow one from your other car. It will be fine as long as you don't drive like a dink and get pulled over.

Yea, I think you need registration but can run with temp insurance that your ins company should be able to hook you up with. Just give them a call and see what they say.

You have 14 days to REGISTER it from the date of a bill of sale, but if you don't have insurance for that car the second you drive away, that's a 2500 dollar ticket - worse if you hit someone or something. There is no flex time - call the ins company with the vin/info. If you've insured the car before, they will often give it to you for free. AMA will also tow the car to the shop you choose if you have silver+, pretty worth it IMO for a car out of warranty.
