  • Re: Gaming Time!

I got GT5 on Friday.... man I am sooo disappointed. I really have to say, all those people who reviewed this game online and gave it top marks.. did they ever play GT1,2,3, &4?

Menu screen is crap and badly organised and whats with emphasis on B spec racing? Who buys a racing simulation and then sits there to watch a computer AI race? I mean who does that? Why not just watch real life racing?
As for the driving licences, in GT4 there was this nice thing called coffee break in between doing the different trials. Nothing in GT5.

The game takes a million years to install. Once it does install it takes ages to get into the game. Its always loading. Menu music is crap and annoying.

Polyphony got GT5 wrong in my books. The whole human user interface is very badly done. The whole transition from menu screen to racing is bad, there is none. It just does not feel well put together like in GT4.
I played Forza 2 on my nephews Xbox (before it broke down) a couple years back. I kills me to say it, but it that game slams GT5. GT4 was the dogs bollocks, great game. How did they go from that to this...? Like is said, six years for this?

Jhop, just return the game. Trust me...

Oh but wait, Forza 4 in the fall of 2011!!!

Still playing NFS myself, some of the later races are a bit grinding to get all the golds and distinctions, but still fun and some DLC dropping next week too.

I'm actually finally playing through Shift, what a wicked game.

I was also about to post up a link to Forza 4.

I'm completely torn on GT5, it might be fantastic or it may be a bomb. I usually find GT reviews to be the most consistently in line with my own opinions of games.

I have to agree with the positive and negative comments on GT5. The menu music is really, really, realllllly bad. I changed the whole library so that the race music is the menu music and turned off all the Jazz and Lounge crap. (I like some Jazz and Lounge from time to time, but this stuff is horrible.) But you can't change the music for the tune shop, the dealerships or the GT zone where you get your sad selection of wheel choices, or the "race modification" that seems that most cars you have in your garage are not applicable to mod aesthetically.
I think what gets me most is that any used car you buy, is not eligible for after market wheels. Bought a MKIV Bora 4 motion VR6 and it has to remain with the stock wheels. Can't even paint the fugly rims. They failed on that huge. Being able to slightly mod your car is a big part of the car enthusists scene and for some reason, this was overlooked. FAIL!! If its a game space usage issue then for fukk sake...loose the stupid photo mode and the so called "course editor" which is useless. How much memory is that eating up?
But when it comes to game play and game play graphics its all win. The physics engine is top notch and Forza can't touch that...at least not with 3, but perhaps with 4...who knows. Was GT5 worth the extremely long release delays....NO! Not even close. There is nothing innovative at all to justify the prolonged release. Definitly a huge disappointment. In the end though, you have to ask yourself, was it worth 60 bucks? For me yes it was. Hell, in a month or two from now, you'll find it used at EB and pick it up for 30 bucks. Worth it for sure at that price. Afterall, a game is suppossed to be all about game play. All the bull5hit getting to the race is exactly that...bull5hit, but once your playing with a 900 degree Logitech G27 leather wrapped steering wheel with the detachable six speed gear selector and hydroforced pedals including a clutch pedal(and yes it works like a sim. you can stall the car if you jump the clutch with no gas applied), all that goes away and you will not be disappointed with the realism of the simulation of this game.

                  ^ Great reply.

My 2¢ about the wheel, if you ever want to play a true racing sim you owe it to yourself to get a proper wheel. pedals, and a gated shifter. The G27 is gorgeous to use, although the new Thrustmaster may take the crown if it turns out to be as good as advertised.

Speaking of Forza, thought this was interesting. Cool concept but I can't really see myself standing in front of the TV playing forza.

Incorrect or disagree? Im glad you found it entertaining. It is. I never knocked the gameplay or graphics. They are good. As Tuna mentioned as a simulation its all WIN.
In reference to your comment/question 'what is so important in your life that your video game loading time is cutting into what you should be doing'. Perhaps the way I wrote was unclear and I appologise. What I meant was the human user interaction between the user and the video game is not well done for a game that is six years in 'development'. But that I mean the menu screens and not the gameplay. Of course there will be loading, its more about transitioning and breaking that up so the user is engaged. GT5 does not do that well at all. I liken it to a very badly edited film. From one scene to the next, you have transitions to smooth the flow. Forza 2 did this very well and so do a few other games like the Half Life series, ie loading of the entire level is broken up into small segments.
Human user interaction is a key element for any game or system for that matter. I know this as I did this for a living when I lived in London and its also part of my degree which also included games design and development. Thats crucial for the success of any game. I suppose you can look beyond the user interaction and just focus on the game play. Great. But I would disagree. History of game development points to human user interaction being a key element in the sucesss of a good game.

As for the music, I never knocked it. GT series is renowned for the music. I knocked the menu music. I don't know about anyone else but the music track thats played right after you get a trophy on the licence tests puts an Image of fat people dancing in a room with their hands in the air and bouncing off each another...don't ask why it just does (yes I have a weird and wonderful imagination).

I don't expect everyone to agree with my arguments (regardless how crazy they sound). I think if my arguments are looking at it in the form that Ive played GT1 to the point you cannot play that game anymore. Gt2 was ok, GT4 was fantastic and then GT5 took six years in development, but yet Forza 2 is a more complete product(& im pro GT!) you can understand how pissed off I am. But unless someone can counter my arguments constructively rather than 'cutting into a pwn fest on cod3 modern genitalia or what ever you halo kids call it my arguments remain valid.

'and you know GT6 is gonna be like a 2020 release date' LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, the G27 gets 5 stars in my opinion. Granted you may need to either build some form of a mount for the wheel and gearbox, but it's worth every penny. If you're looking for a lower price you may be able to find a G25 somewhere online. The G25 did have a sequential shifter as well as a gated shifter, while the G27 is only gated with paddles.

One last note, the G27 has many cables, so just a note.
