  • Ripped off on Vortex

So, I bought some stuff from a guy doing a part-out on the Vortex and he hasn't shipped anything to me yet.

The first deal (rear wiper assembly) was paid through Paypal....in mid-November.

The second deal (front and back leather seats) was paid through an Interac e-mail transfer at the end of November. I told him to just ship the wiper assembly with the seats.

He gave me all kinds of stories about the delays, etc., but the last I heard from the dude was that he was going to ship them on the 2nd (last Tuesday). Now there's no communications at all.

I've looked into PayPal and going trough their process to get my $$$ back from them, and the bank's fraud unit told me that if I filed a complaint with the Calgary Police that they could get a warrant to access the bank records and get this guy's address.....maybe have the Vancouver Police pay a little visit.

I had sent a note last week saying I wanted confirmation of shipping or my money back by the end of today. He's a kid who's apparently going back to school, etc.....how much slack do I cut him before I involve Paypal and the cops? Another couple days? Or, do I just go after him and 'flush him out' ?

I think you have given too much slack, bust him hard because in the mean time he is ripping other people off as we speak (well maybe)

just start filing a complaint and tell him you have filed a complaint with cps and paypal and see if he smartens up

paypals system isnt the greatest for getting u your money back though....i always use my cc through paypal now as the few times i have had problems visa has covered the costs 100% and before when i didnt use visa paypal couldnt get me my money back unless the seller had the money in there paypal account.

I would never use an EMT to buy something off the net unless I knew the seller was trusted.
Always use VISA because VISA has your back if paypal doesn't.

VISA does always have your back. You can file a complaint with paypal - you probably won't get your money back BUT they almost definitely will freeze his account and if he has any assets in them he forfeits them. The paypay agreement says something like just suspicion of fraud lets them seize your money - they are not a bank.

You can also complain to people on vortex, I have seen some other threads where basically they track the guy down and have someone leave a note on his doorstep, all of a sudden he feels like giving you your money back. A lot of times the readership on the 'tex is so big that someone will have shipped that guy something or will know something about him. Or contact him again from a different email address under a false name about another part you want but insist that you want to send the money mail sight unseen and maybe he is stupid enough to fall for the address or give you a phone number. Make it a lot of money or something, or just tell him your bank needs a phone number to call to confirm the transfer or whatever you want.

Well, Paypal isn't any help. You only have 45 days to file a complaint that they will take seriously. Guess I was too trusting with him.

Talked to CPS and will be going into the district office as soon as I have time when they are open. They will take the statement, give me a case number and then send it to the fraud unit which is "very busy".

Sent some IM's to other people who bought things on his part-out. Some have received items, others not. I'm going to see if they have a contact number from shipping information or anything like that.

Was a private purchase, so Visa / MC was not an option. Hope the guy see's the light and lets me know what's going on.

Find the little F$%@*ER, beat him within an inch of his life, and shove both those leather seats up his ass.

Sent an e-mail to him last night catching him up on what I had been doing.....talking to the cops and all. Got an IM back from him within 10 minutes. Interesting. More excuses though...so I'll likely pursue the complaint with the cops. "Too busy to ship them" doesn't cut it.
