Volvo has announced the second generation XC90 will receive the Polestar treatment in the years to come.
Speaking to British magazine Auto Express, Volvo's vice president of powertrain Michael Fleiss said Polestar is developing two hotter versions of the XC90 which will be powered by the D5 and T6 engines. However, the duo won't sit on top of the range as these will be tuned to deliver an output between what the T6 and T8 offer.
As a reminder, the T6 variant has a turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engine with 320 bhp (239 kW) & 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) whereas the range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid has a combined output of 400 bhp (298 kW) & 472 lb-ft (640 Nm). Since Polestar is working on the D5 engine, it should be mentioned that in its stock configuration the twin-turbodiesel motor generates 225 bhp (168 kW) & 347 lb-ft (470 Nm).
Aside from getting more powerful engines, the Volvo XC90 Polestar will also benefit from an upgraded chassis to reduce body roll and increase grip while the sportier body will take influences from the R-Design variant. Those two upgraded motors will probably sound a little bit meaner as Polestar could decide to install a sound synthesizer to enable a throatier soundtrack.

Volvo has announced the XC90 T8 Twin Engine has CO2 emissions of only 49 g/km.
Even though it's a mid-size SUV with seven seats, the second generation XC90 in the range-topping T8 Twin Engine version manages to remain quite economical as Volvo has announced CO2 emissions stand at 49 g/km, representing a 10 g/km decrease compared to the original estimations. This equates to a fuel economy of 134.5 mpg UK (112 mpg US or 2.1 liters / 100 km) while the battery has enough juice for an electric range of up to 26 miles (42 km).
Despite being very frugal, the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine is also respectably quick as it runs the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 5.6 seconds thanks to a hybrid combined output of 407 PS (299 kW) and 640 Nm (472 lb-ft).
"World's cleanest SUV" is scheduled to arrive in dealerships later this spring in Europe while Americans will be able to place an order this summer from $68,100 (T8 Twin Engine model).

Yes!
I'm quite impressed all around, the performance for an SUV, the looks, the interior, the fuel economy, the price. Everything just seems to hit the nail on the head with this one.
