  • 2015/16 Mercedes-AMG GT Revealed

The first pics of the highly anticipated replacement of the soon to be discontinued SLS.

At launch, there are two different versions, the GT and the GT S. The latter arrives to Canada in mid-April of next year, while the GT is scheduled to appear in 2016. The GT S is the higher-performing variant with 503 horsepower, an estimated 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h. The manufacturer has also cited an impressive combined fuel efficiency rating of 9.3 litres/100 km.

The V-8 is reportedly the first sports car engine with turbochargers mounted inside the cylinder banks, a design called “hot inside V” that enables better response and a more compact design. While the current SLS AMG has a sticker price of $248,000, the Mercedes-AMG GT is expected to cost roughly half that in a bid to compete head-to-head with the Porsche 911.

            Looks great.

What happens when you blow up a turbo?

This may be the first "sports car" but BMW has had their N63 out now since 08 with the twin turbo's in the valley. Seems like the engine is only available in the 750i and X6 though which maybe don't count as sports cars.

Anyone find the ECU being without a raintray sort of weird? It's just sitting there!

                  It's in the X5, X6, 750, 550, 650. Any car you see marked 50i. I'd definitely consider a 650 GC a sports car, A beautiful one at that.

The M model, the S63, is found in the X5M, X6M, M5 and M6 (and I think an Alpina uses a version of it). The only major difference is a forged bottom end.

MB has a few models that have the ecu just sitting in the engine bay. But its better than a maserati I was working on.....ecu mounted on bottom of the diff. lol

Would have been neat if they stuck with the gullwing doors

My volvo ECU is right between the radiator and the airbox in the engine bay, nothing wrong with it as long as everything is waterproof. Same with my buddies truck that we were cleaning up for sale. I made sure he disconnected the battery and left it disconnected when he was pressure washing the bay out so it wouldn't short at all.

Love it, love it, love it!

I was a bit disappointed not to see gull wings, but an amazing looking car regardless. Benz is on a roll with their new design direction. I see this doing very well in this market if they can keep the price-point under $150K.

                          Ahem

Hot V's have been around since the 80's.

And apparently the Ferrari had a ton of lag, but tons of power.
