The fans are the "air scarf" option - creates a warm cocoon of air around your head for when you're driving in cold weather with the top down.
Well that is certainly an interesting way of solving that problem, I personally think if it was cold out I would have my top up but then again I would never own a conv. in the first place.
It seems like a bad idea until you own one in the summer, then you appreciate it more than you expected. If you've never owned one for a while or had one to drive for a summer, you should try it, its nice.

I've never owned one myself but my step-dad had a 75-76? MGB that was fun to cruise around in on a nice day for sure but if you like the open air, get a motorbike imo, I'm more of a perf. minded auto enthusiast who will take a solid hardtop w/sunroof and AC over its sloppier/heavier conv. version anyday. What made you choose the Cayman over the Boxter anyways Kris?
