I think you should end up with the Porsche, I also think it has to be the S. The 'slow around town' feeling would be much better. Try a boxster S for a test drive to get a feel for the engine. I have so many reasons to take the Porsche over the BMW but most of them are opinionated and subjective, I am sure you got enough of that from Miles haha. Just a note on the looks you were getting, I know red gets a lot of thumbs down around here, but it does stand out on a sports car. That may explain some, maybe not all, of the disproportionate looks you got in the Porsche.
