After yesterday’s teaser, DS Automobiles has fully revealed the E-TENSE concept envisioned as being a high-performance electric vehicle.
DS is celebrating a year since it became a standalone brand with a rather exciting concept of an electric grand tourer featuring a sleek design in the same vein as the Divine DS concept. The vehicle is 4.12-meters long, 2.08-meters wide and has a very low height of just 1.29 meters which gives it a dramatic side profile.
The sharp appearance is matched with a powerful electric heart producing a very respectable 402 horsepower (300 kilowatts) and an instant torque of 381 pound-feet (516 newton meters.) This enables the DS E-TENSE run the sprint to 62 miles (100 kilometers) per hour in only four and a half seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph.)
The lithium-ion battery pack has enough energy to last for up to 224 miles (360 km) in the city or as much as 192 miles (310 km) when driven in the combined cycle.
Tipping the scales at 3,968 pounds (1,800 kg), the concept sits on 20-inch alloy wheels with bespoke Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and benefits from a carbon monocoque chassis. The two-seater electric GT features independent superimposed double wishbone suspensions and has a low center of gravity as a result of putting the batteries underneath the floor.
Photos of the interior are not available at this point, but DS mentions its upholsterers needed 800 hours to design, test and make the cabin. The dashboard features cold steel accents while the steering wheel takes the shape of a tulip. On the multimedia front there’s a 10-inch infotainment setup with a Focal 640-watt, nine-speaker sound system which according to DS turns the concept into “an auditorium to satisfy the most exigent listeners.”
Although it’s all very impressive, the DS E-TENSE is nothing more than a concept which is unlikely to morph into a production car. The vehicle will be on display starting Tuesday at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
