Bentley has announced the new and sportier Mulsanne Speed, joining the company's model range.
Designed to deliver the “the fastest ultra-luxury driving experience in the world”, the British car will be available in four new exterior colors – Spectre, Candy Red, Camel and Marlin. A dark tint finish is applied to the radiator grille, lower bumper grilles and wing vents. Also offered are a set of new 21-inch wheels, available in painted, polished and dark tint with machined accent finishes.
Moving inside the cabin there are new trims, colors and veneers, as well as diamond quilting for the seats and door panels, special drilled pedals and a new indented headlining.
Bentley has equipped the luxury vehicle with an upgraded 6.75-liter V8 engine, generating 537 PS (395 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque. The reengineered power plant propels the Mulsanne Speed from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in only 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).
The unit benefits from a cylinder deactivation system that allows it to run as a V4, resulting in CO2 emissions reduced from 393 g/km to 342 g/km. The V8 is mated to a revised 8-speed automatic gearbox with S mode for a quicker engine response.
The producer has also included a more driver-focused Sport driving mode that “stiffens the all-round air suspension for improved body control and adjusts the steering dynamics for greater feedback and accuracy”.
Bentley chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Durheimer comments that “the new Mulsanne Speed is the car that defines Bentley, as a flagship for driving luxury performance”. The vehicle “is distinguished, calm and relaxing”, but “always with a connection to the road and relentless dynamic performance on demand”.
The Mulsanne Speed will be fully unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on October 2 and will be available for customer delivery this winter. Prices start at around 315,000 EUR (252,200 pounds).
