    Thoughts on the new mini?

They are saying "bigger and better" but it seems bigger and heavier, with a higher center of gravity and no more power under the bonnet.

Doesn't seem like it will be much of what it was before, in the days of "The Italian Job"?

Looks wise I feel like it reminds me of the Countryman due to the height increase especially. Obviously some nicer styling updates and much-needed interior changes but now I think it's competing in a whole different class.

I am not sure what to make of it, seems so similar yet so different at the same time. I think you really need to see a new and old together to compare but LED headlights is interesting and the base is a 3 cylinder (at least over here) and the D looks nice too.

      Details on the size increase:

Despite being called a "MINI", the new model is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the outgoing generation, while its wheelbase has been stretched by 42mm to 2495mm. In addition, the track widths have been enlarged by 42mm front / 34 mm rear. As a result of the increased dimensions (3821mm length, 1727mm width, 1414mm height), the new MINI not only offers more interior cabin room but also 211 liters of cargo capacity, a significant increase of 30 percent.

          Re: New Mini

It's as big as a civic, the countryman was already big. They need to remove the "mini" and rename it to the "cooper".

I am also not sure I like the new styling. My feeling with the mini is the center dash part between the driver and passenger needs to be redesigned, instead of removing it they made it bigger, meh.

I agree, they should just call it the new fatty and be done with it.

I like it, I've always despised their interiors, though.

Found some comparison shots, I have to say the side profile is starting to look not too bad to me.

Like every other car out there, they go a bit bigger every time. My S4, for example, is more comparable in size the the S3.

I personally like the styling of the Mini's, but the Mini's aren't very mini anymore

I do like how they did the interior though. No more lame center speedometer!

Yeah the interior was done over just right.

Honestly even the size increase might not be too bad if it has sharp handling and good suspension. BUT the engine is going to be underpowered for this larger car. Being bigger and heavier they need more than 180 hp in the "sporty" version. Should be like 230+
