  • McLaren P1 Concept & Production Versions

McLaren has released the first details about their P1 concept, ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Designed to be the "best driver's car in the world," the concept previews the highly-anticipated F1 successor that will go on sale within 12 months.

The car's styling is heavily influenced by the MP4-12C, but it's far more aggressive thanks to a ventilated hood, sculpted sides and an insane rear end.

McLaren declined to release performance specifications, but Managing Director Antony Sheriff said "Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit. It is the true test of a supercar's all round ability and a much more important technical statement." He added, "Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made."

That's pretty vague, but previous reports have indicated the model could feature a 3.8-liter V8 engine and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for a combined maximum output of 963 hp (718 kW). This may enable the supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of approximately 384 km/h (239 mph).

                        Re: McLaren P1 Concept

Is this the car that has some crazy corner braking system where apparently it'll be able to hit 2G's in the corners? At silverstone or some track, it shattered the old 'street car' record by like 24 seconds, on a track that is only like 1:30 to begin with. Maybe i'm smoking crack, but I could have sworn I recently read that on Jalopnik or somewhere. God I hope I'm right.

I am not 100% on where and what the prototypes have been doing but you can bet this car should be a benchmark in performance just as the F1 was back in its day, and this car will be in the 7 figures for sure as well!

Been reading with interest the comments on Teamspeed and the majority are not positive. I think expectations were too high for this car. But I liked it instantly and am liking it more and more just like the 12C which I wasn't a fan of in initial photos, much like a lot of people. I think the P1 will be a grower on a lot of the naysayers as a result - I see a lot of design cues from the F1 in the P1. And lets not forget the F1 was hardly outlandish in its design with form following function (even if we consider the central seating postion) - the P1 for me is much the same with good reason; I'm sure it'll be a mindblowing drive. I'm excited to see actual photos out on the street.
