Following a year's worth of spy photos and a conceptual preview revealed just last month, Aston Martin has announced the production version of the DBS successor - the AM 310 Vanquish.
Riding at the pinnacle of the famous British marque's sports car range, the AM 310 Vanquish features next generation VH architecture. Each body panel is constructed from carbon fiber while body shell torsional rigidity is improved by more than 25 percent.
There is also a significantly upgraded 6.0-liter V12 engine that produces 565 bhp (573 PS / 421 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque via a Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox. 0-62 mph arrives in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h).
Design infuence comes from the One-77 supercar as seen in the new waist, elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades. However, the Vanquish is unmistakably an Aston Martin with its own unique stylings and presence.
Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez said, "This is the latest incarnation of everything we know, informed and developed from One-77. It is the ultimate Super Grand Tourer - confident and assured - and is the newest representation of Power, Beauty and Soul."
Available as a 2+2 or 2+0, the AM 310 Vanquish is priced from £189,995 RRP. First deliveries are planned to begin in the UK and Continental Europe in late 2012.
Not mentioned previously are a few interesting tid bits:
-As an example of the depth of re-engineering, the Vanquish contains 75 percent new parts compared to the DBS.
-The interior has 140 percent more storage space than the DBS.
-Compared to the DBS, passenger space has increased with legroom up 37mm, shoulder room 25mm, elbow room 87mm and knee room 50mm while dash panel has moved forward 20mm.
-The weave patterns on the exposed carbon fiber body components have been carefully selected to present the most consistent surfaces.
-The car's front-mid mounted engine and rear-mid mounted transaxle provide a near perfect weight distribution with 85 percent of the car's weight positioned within its wheelbase.
-The Vanquish is fitted with new generation Pirelli P-Zero tires that have been developed especially for the car, along with new 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
-The braking is a third generation Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) system which features 398 mm x 36 mm front brake discs with larger front brake pads and six-piston brake callipers from the One-77, while the rear brakes use 360 mm x 32 mm brake discs with a four-piston calliper.
