The SEAT IBE Concept car which was unveiled in Geneva is not only a perspective on future SEAT designs, but it also marks a major step towards Spain's motor vehicle electrification. The IBE is a 2+2, two-door coupe powered by an electric drive system with zero-emissions capabilities.
First a look at the concept itself. SEAT says the car is aimed at urban users with a youthful outlook on life, hence the coupe shape. Yet interior space is not compromised too much so it can also be used as a mild family car. It is 3.78 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and is 1.2 metres high. A set of four 19-inch wheels with low rolling resistance tyres are fitted. Full LED headlights characterise the front end while the two air intakes in the lower bumper assist with cooling the car.
"With the IBE, we are demonstrating that, for SEAT, electric mobility will always be combined with excellent design and outstanding driving fun," says James Muir, President of SEAT. "The IBE is in the best SEAT tradition of always offering the boldest and most youthful cars in its class. On top of that, our first electric concept car represents the continuation of our strategy for the future; after the huge success of the highly efficient ECOMOTIVE models, we are now working intensively on electric mobility; and that includes plug-in hybrid drive, as well as an all-electric vehicle."
A lithium-ion battery located at the rear makes 75kW (102 PS) and 200Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. It is capable of a 0 - 50km/h sprint of 3.4 seconds while the 0 - 100km/h takes 9.4 seconds. Overall the IBE weighs just 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lbs).
