I had this same thought while shopping for a mid sized SUV. By the time I finally realized the Santa Fe was likely as good a value as I could get and decided to buy one as my wife's car I was mostly over the "but it's a Hyundai" bit (she and I have never owned anything but VWs). By the time we got it home I was totally over it. We really like the truck and have not at all regretted it. It really never even crosses my mind to think about it in context of its Hyundainess; it is just well executed, comfortable and well appointed. I guess that may be a little harder to rationalize when dealing with luxury cars, arguably a more emotional and less pragmatic segment. But Motor Trend said it well " but the Lexus (LS) costs nearly twice as much. That's a huge discrepancy in price for a minor disparity in excellence…. what's Lexus to do when Hyundai actually builds a luxury sedan that doesn't cost half as much?”

I went and drove one. Very very impressive car. Absolutelly loaded with features. Interior is excellent and car looks great overall in person. I drove the V6 because they didn't have a V8 yet.

For $50K you get a loaded 375 hp Genesis or a 204 hp loaded IS 250 that is smaller than a civic inside and doesn't have all the features. If I wanted that type of car I would get over the H badge fast!

Hehehehe....but for 41k I could get a barebones IS350 and I can do without HID's and swedish butt massagers...to be in an IS350!

Basically, being a brand fanboy < awesome vehicle....so drive what you like. Shoot, I'd buy the Genesis coupe if it truly does have that turbocharged engine...and RICE the crap outta of it (and run a giant turbo)....

Hahahaha very true. But at a 20k discount, I'll forgo some BMW panache for the lexus....
