  • Hyundai Geneiss

Im sure some of you have seen the commericals...What are your thoughts?

I went on the website today to build one, not that I personally would EVER consider buying one...after looking at the website, even less likely.

    2 engine choices:
    3.8L V6 - 290HP@6200rpm
    4.6L V8 - 375HP@6500rpm

Base price on the 6 is $37,995 & on the 8 it's $43,995..If you actually option them out the 8 creep all the way up to 50k....I'm still a little sketchy on exactly what you get for the "technology package" or the "premium package" but they add a s*it load to the price.

You guys are way off, Hyundai, is South Korean. Not sure where this particular car is built.

Looks pretty good though, I'm not really in the market for a car like that.

          Heh funny guy!

I dig it, looks better in person than in photos but I agree that I wouldn't drop 50k on a Hyundai. You cannot create a dynasty producing cheap (in this case Korean) boxes then suddenly try to go upmarket....uh....then again, that's what Toyota and Honda and VW did....

          Crap. Nevermind.

Anyways, the coupe is awesome, turbocharged 2L that can run on Regular. And is factory *recommended* to run on Regular (unless you want a couple more horses). Sweet.

i guess time will tell. It will be a hard sell. Sorta like the Phaeton (not comparing quality, just mentality..). With the money needed for a Phaeton, most would move to an Audi or something rather then have a really high priced car with a VW badge.

I have heard that it compares to a Lexus favorably.

              I would probably consider it.

Poor poor Phaeton. Especially considering the same company (well, under the same umbrella) offered a near-identical car (the A8) with WAY more cachet value for marginally more money. For people looking for an executive sedan, the decision was a no brainer.

The problem it faces is it has to overcome the brand's own engineered image (that of being a bargain vehicle brand) to tackle the likes of Lexus, BMW, etc. in the luxury full-size segment. If it is going to successful, it not only has to do everything its competitors does, it has to do it all significantly better.

The car has gotten rave reviews from most reviews.

I think that in Canada the price might be high but in the US it is going to be super competitive.

It does get rave reviews, look at the detail on the inside and along with great handling and a great engine and amazing warranty, what more would you want? It has good looks too.

Hyundai has their sights set high so you can ignore them for a little while but they will eventually get your attention...

When they build a decent sports coupe I will be impressed, they have let me down a few times though with past announcements.

                        Re: Hyundai Geneiss

Well it is a $50K Hyundai which kind of makes you shake your head, but when it is competing against 80K+ cars and seeming to do well at it I think if you are in the market it is worth a look.

Although I will probably never be in the market for a car like this I have to applaud Hyundai for giving it a shot and perhaps getting some of the old boys club companies off their asses as they have had an easy ride for a while!

Remember Lexus was an unknown in the luxury game not that far back.
