The car most likely would not be too heavily modded as I think I will just be in a 2-3 year lease, maybe just some wheels/drop, but I think 140hp will be livable after the 40hp Smart.

Touche.... as an upside, even with a torsion beam rear with trailing links, it matches the GTI in Road and Track's slalom, and its brakes (much larger than the Opel's) means it brakes just as good as the GTI (120feet 60-0mph)

Speed in a straightline isn't everything....and its a hot looking car...

I like it a lot actually. I'm not sure about Saturn's resale (fairly poor), so the lease may be a very good option.

My wife and I are also looking for something perhaps a year from now. Her ford focus (don't ask) is on it's last legs... and we were looking at perhaps getting the new Nissan Rogue.

I am an avid fan of saturn cars / saturn parts. I have always wanted to own a Saturn Astra 3 door XR. It is very brilliant in white. Thanks for posting!
