I'll give you my advice too but it will be different than Ryan's!

A boost controller is not a bad idea but as Ryan mentioned you may do better with a Chip or at least get the chip AND the boost controller.

You will not be able to significantly raise boost using only a boost controller, and you won't be able to get the benefits of a chip such as advanced timing and better fueling. This is not to say there won't be some small gains from boosting a couple PSI more than stock, but it may not be worth your time.

If you do get a boost controller, I would highly advise you just buy one of the high-end electronic ones such as a Greddy or Apex'i. Trust me, I have fiddled with cheaper ones.

I would recommend being chipped by Upsolute, since its way less than half the cost and you're not getting anything more from the other brands. You can still use the same tuning software such as Lemmiwinks with Upsolute too! I also think the Upsolute rep in our area is much better than the APR rep.

There is not much of a performance reason to get a new DV if your car is newer than 2002.5 since VW upgraded the old one that used to fail. However, with a cold air intake and a new DV you can get a cool sound, and some DV's do add a little bling under the hood. Depends on what floats your boat.

I am a huge fan of neuspeed products myself, I believe they put a lot more care into fitment and quality than most if not all of their competitors. I am sure you would be pleased with their exhaust. There are certainly other choices out there but I don't think neuspeed is the worst.

Ryan and I do agree on one thing, and thats that the Forge SMIC is not a very good intercooler. Testing by several people has revealed that it doesn't really cool any better than stock. Its just too limited by the location. Either do a dual-intercooler or front-mount intercooler setup, or nothing at all.

Sure, you can hide it by putting a mesh in front or even keeping the stock grills. It won't be TOTALLY hidden but it will be very stealth.

The dual intercooler supposedly works fairly well also. This is what comes stock on the Audi TT 225. They basically put the stock 1.8T intercooler on both sides. Totally hidden, 2x the cooling. Still not quite as good as front mount but way better than the Forge.

                        Re: 2004 GTi

1 hour install for a good kit.. some FMIC reroute over and above the engine and some have the endtanks on the same side so they go back to stock piping

personally i would only get a FMIC that is bling and stands out if you want stealth the upsolute, evo or apr is prolly your best bet

                            Re: 2004 GTi

I've seen a few front mounts look pretty stealth -- just make sure it's black! The kicker is to get one that will fit nicely behind the front bumper so you can keep all the grills on.

Otherwise, the dual intercooler setup from the TT (I think eurosport sells a kit) is sweet. Get yourself a new TT throttlebody though, and you'll be laughing. Substantially better than stock, although probably not quite as good as a FMIC. But, it's stealthy and you won't need to cut up your bumper (or bumper supports) to get it to fit.

BUT I probably wouldn't upgrade your intercooler until everything else has been upgraded. The stock one really isn't that bad, and only gets heatsoak if you're baggin on the car all the time.
