I thought it was about time that I start a build thread for my beloved Mk6 Golf R. After pre-ordering this car in November 2010 when the final spec of the Canadian/American cars had not been decided by VWOA, I agreed with my dealer that I would only purchase the car if it came with a manual transmission and 4 doors. I was flexible on colour but if available, my heart was set on Carbon Steel Grey. I think it was about 6 months later when they confirmed I could have that exact combination - the count down began.
Fast forward a whole bunch of time, it was April 2012 when I was walking to work one day and a truck drove past me carrying some brand new VW’s - I could see my Golf R’s Talladegas sticking out below the covers. I ran over to the dealer and got to unwrap the car myself. (I've got a picture of the truck somewhere - I'm gonna look it up and add it here
I don’t really have a ton of progress shots but here’s what I’ve done with her in the past 3 and a half years and 44,000km’s.
Really, since I started, I always said I didn't want to do too much to the car because it's such great drive out of the box. Originally, I just wanted to add the pieces that were missing through de-contenting in this market - LED tails, Recaros etc. As I drove the car more, the build became more about me helping the car to achieve the potential that it should have fulfilled when it left the factory. So I guess that is to say, this is my attempt at an OEM+ build.
Thanks to Jim and Danny for any existing or new pictures in this thread, Jim also for helping me install the Recaros and general garage hangs, Jeff for the incredible job with the 3M, Soutchcentre fine cars for not washing the car when I took delivery (No seriously, I asked them not to wash it) Concept One for doing some good work back in the day, Tracy for not letting me buy any more SH1T wheels, Bryan for always encouraging me to spend more for better parts and helping me through my wiring challenges with the mirrors and Roberto at Compact Tuning Lab for fucking nailing it with the flared arches/paint all round. Oh, and last but not least, my wife - for letting me spend arguably outrageous amounts of money on questionable things…
