I was thinking of doing it with my golf, but couldn't justify spending 500-1000$ to wrap my car...

I suppose it sorta protects my paint, but the vinyl is pretty thin, although I definitely didn't pay even close to that much.

Yeah I did. Only thing I haven't done is the roof, which I might do, but haven't decided yet
