Don't get me wrong, this is awesome and I can really appreciate the work going into it but if I was spending that kind of money id keep a turbo. I'm not trying to start an argument it was just a question to the guy out of curiosity.
It's great to see something different.

Re: My MK2 Build (NA 20V)
First off we are not really too hung up on the horse power for this car. This build is all about doing something different and unique. But let's take a look at what we expect for performance. The car will weigh about 2000 pounds, the gearing will be very tight and if we do make between 250 and 300hp it will have a similar power to weight ratio as a 400hp mk4. The difference will be our power will be very linear and if driven properly will have no trouble keeping up to said mk4. I've driven a big turbo mk2 that puts down a verified 300whp and it's a real blast to drive but there is a lot of unnecessary wheel spin and is really not as fast as it could be because the torque curve is so steep. I've been exposed to a lot of high horse power hatchbacks and though they are fun unless they are all wheel drive they are kind of silly. You know the kind of silly that makes you laugh uncontrollably, but that's just not what I'm looking for. I think this car is really unique and will be lots of fun to take to shows, meets and cruises. I know that not everybody is going to agree with what we are building, but I wouldn't expect them to.
Thanks for all the comments and encouragement I'm having lots if fun with this project and it doesn't bother me one bit that some people don't get it.- 2003 Big Turbo 20th AE GTI

Re: My MK2 Build (NA 20V)
I have always been of the mindset that 300-400hp and above in anything FWD may be fun, but not really useable. I think 250-300hp in a sub-2200lb car will be stupid fast, and the fact is that NA motors with a wide power band and high rev limit have a different driving experience. There are some people that care more about doing what they want and are interested in, then about making cheap power.Last edited by danosaur; 02-20-2015, 11:00 PM.

Re: My MK2 Build (NA 20V)
Everything about this build is epic. Light car, high revving NA 1.8!!! This will be a blast to drive. And the sound will be mind blowing. I am sure once it is done it will see 300hp and 11k based on the work that is being done. This will be one of, if not, the best sounding cars in Calgary outside of anybody doing Hyabusa swaps.
I took the liberty of preparing this little video of what 1.8 litres producing 250hp at 10,000 rpm on a dyno sounds like. Just epic Adam & Pops, Epic!
Disclaimer this is not Adams engine just and illustration.

On another note, Corrado seats are awesome in a mk2.
