  • Hooddub's Big Turbo B6 Build

    Hey all,

As some of you already know I have recently scored myself a "new" 2002 Dolphin Grey (my all time favourite Audi colour) 1.8T A4 Quattro Sport.
I have some pic whoring to do for anyone who is interested and I will be doing an actual build thread for the first time ever!
I have not going to be doing anything crazy like Pat's GT3076'd B6 however, I do have some pretty big plans for this car!
Anyways here are some pictures of how it looked when I got it last week!

    Started fiddling with things..
Armrest delete, looking for something to fill the hole it left behind.. Suggestions?

Cone filter (found about an inch of dirt in my stock airbox and a cigarette butt..) I actually gained noticeable horsepower from this!

The forge DV that it came with. Also came with the APR inlet compressor hose

Painted the battery cover and engine cover for Fahrfromehome. Turned out more gold than I was hoping but still looks pretty good in my opinion.

    And some pictures from Fahrfromhome!

Also smoked the top half of the tails. I like how it looks on Dolphin Grey

Mods the car came with include a Unitronic stage 1+ tune, the turbo inlet hose pictured above, the forge DV also pictured, cup kit suspension (can't remember what brand, not low enough anyways but it sits better than if it was stock), APR stealth turbo back exhaust (too quiet!! Has a nice hum but not throaty enough for my tastes), and the RS6 peelers that are on the car.

I'm planning on doing a GT2871r with a new manifold, front mount and fueling and all that. Most likely going to do my rods too because I don't want to have to worry about destroying them.
The build won't really start until I get some cash flow going, but I will be updating this thread with the little things I do to the car.

The peelers are for sale with rubber! PM me if interested they are 18" I will double check all the specs and update this in a bit!

Plans for the near future include coils, adapters for my sawblades (I've never seen a b6 on sawblades and think they will look really good)

Going to be doing all my fluids and ignition stuff soon as well as a boost gauge, if anyone has one for sale let me know!

    Thanks for reading!
    Evan

Let me know if you need a hand with anything. I also have a bunch of leftover parts from my GTRS setup (turbo too, just needs a new CHRA)

Also have a VMR vent boost gauge and a Podi Dual gauge (Boost and AFR) available

Thanks man! I was actually considering a GTRS because I want to retain driveablility with my car and still make a good amount of power but I just felt like it would be better to go a bit bigger so I wouldn't have to push the turbo to its limits to get power out of it. What do you think?

If you're going BT post up all you're plans here and get some feedback, there are enough people who have gone though it and can lead you the right way, it will save you a ton of headache and cash.

GTRS was plenty of fun, but when the CHRA gave up I used it as an opportunity to upgrade I certainly miss the torque curve of the GTRS, especially on the highway. The car is a dog until 4200rpm now.

Added to my previous post, take a second look

Good thinking. I might even try to pick up a used turbo depending on what available, but here goes.

I'm pretty much set on a GT28, a GTRS doesn't make quite enough power for where I want to be and a GT30 spools kind of slow, I want it to be driveable around the city but I want a sizable turbo too.
Obviously the supporting mods required like a new manifold, a catless downpipe, front mount, bigger injectors, fuel pump, etc.. Haven't looked too far into that stuff yet but the time will come and those are the mods I plan on doing for support.
I also like the GT28 because it is going to be pretty easy to work with, they can bolt up right to stock everything if I'm not mistaken which just makes fitment easier (I'm assuming).
Like mentioned above, rods are definitely being considered just because I want to be able to push a good amount of boost and get my money's worth from a BT.
Tune wise I was considering an off the shelf Unitronics tune for the gt28. They advertise 350hp which is a good number to me. Hoping to make over 300 at the very least but hopefully closer to 350.
If not the Unitronics tune I will probably get ecuprogram to tune it.

I would really look into pag parts for the hardware just based on the simplicity of the v band set up
And their billet wheels are crazy in terms of spool and top end.

Also see if you can take some ride alongs in some cars to see what kinda set ups you like.
