      Re: My 91 GTI 8V

After Closetohome my motivation sky rocketed and within the next couple weeks this build is really gonna start going places (i hope). Since i should be starting work full time next week i can finally start to afford a set of wheels and more. I Decided to restore my exterior trim and i heard using a heat gun was a good technique, gave that a go and it turned out it was.

I than removed the brutal purple tint along with the shiny stuff in the rear windshield which was an awful job to get off but definately worth it, fish bowl looks alot better.

So ive purchased paint for the car and me and Evan are starting prep next week which is pretty exciting, cant wait to get a rid of red marks everywhere and the watermelon look.

Looks way better without the tint and the BLACK trim

Will and I will be prepping and painting (spraybombing) his car this weekend. Stay tuned for pictures and updates. Going a bit in the opposite direction than we initially thought but it will be the best $100 paintjob any of you has ever seen

                  Re: My 91 GTI 8V

So this weekend me Evan and Martin transformed the GTI forever. We started on saturday morning with removing bumpers trims mouldings, hood etc.... took us an hour or two to get everything off the car that needed to be. Than off to sanding, we originally wanted to go down to bare metal but as having 3 paint jobs on the car that didnt cooperate well so we took a bit of a shortcut, Evans compressor didnt really cooperate either so the DA sander was out of business which also slowed things down a bit. After about 8 hours the car was at the level we wanted and off to repairing some dents and rust spots, we figured the car must of been T-Boned because my rear quarter panel was covered in an inch of Bondo and the Fender was pushed in a good inch or two, luckily the flares covered that part up. We got the bondo done shaved my hatch and a cleaned up a few other things, Than it was time for getting a rid of the dirt and grime on the car. Than came masking the car off and we started on the primer which dried very quickly so we decided to get the entire car done and painted it until 2am. Next morning went to check out how we did and it looked fantastic so it was time to put everything back on and clean up the garage. Im very happy with how this turned out considering i only spent about 150 $ all together, luckily had most of the sand paper, bondo, tools and Evan supplied the knowledge and skill part. Was a fun project that honestly transformed my car and i no longer have a watermelon of a car. Its definately a unique color and thats why we chose it and hopefully in the next couple weeks i can order some wheels and get some better looking photos

Final pictures the car is still really dirty but just a preview

Nice color. Hard to tell from photos, is it flat paint or shiny?

Thanks guys, love how it turned out. It's got a bit of a glossy effect to it in certain lights but mostly matte as the paint wasn't anything special haha
