    Re: A couple of vw's.

Well i did a service on the jetta this weekend. Oil change, fuel filter, air filter...the good stuff. I picked up the pancake pipe from Sean. I noticed while i was doing a check over on the car that the upper IC pipe was cocked funny at the intake throttle valve(or whatever vw calls it). I pulled the circlip off to find this.

    The pipe itself (different car)

So i put it back in and of course i had a boost leak so i got it to seal for now going to find a new pipe this morning. Wish vw would do the good ol coupler and constant torque clamp but oh well. I got looking at the bottom ic pipe and the pancake pipe will flow much better need pick up some couplers before it can go on.

Anyone else have that upper boost pipe do this to them? I've read online it's happed to some others. I'm wondering since it could move in that throttle valves housing going from on boost to off boost if it was just worn those tabs going back and forth that little bit.

      Re: A couple of vw's.

very common issue. I know on BEW TDI's it can be ghetto fixed by making a C-shaped clamp to hold the hose in place

      edit, for pics see: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-V...-/400217310541

unsure if its the same for a 1.8

Thanks nismo. I'm going to get the new one and come up with a solution so it doesn't happen again. Part# 1J0145838T,ordered a new one from C1 will pick it up and install tomorrow before work, it's 102$ not cheap for what it is, oh well.

          Re: A couple of vw's.

I know a lot of you guys are interested more in the newer cars but i thought i'd throw this up here anyway! I was back into the garage again fixing floors on the mk1. I have started on the right side.

There was a lot of rust and rot along the edges also the floors were all bent from the previous owner lifting on the channeling under the car so i started making repairs to that. I'm by far not a welder or body man and turning wrenches is for sure more my thing. But here it goes...

Here is the channeling before just after i stripped back a little of the sealer.

After, i cut a access hole to get in with hammer and punch to punch it back out. Not perfect but once covered back with some truck bed liner im happy filled all the holes.

Cut out the rot and welded in new sections.
          Rear right-

          Front right-

Camera is dead so charging. I hit it with some rust encapsulator to be safe. Once drivers side is finished i have por15 to go on. Underneath will get some sort of rubber(probably rhino liner) coating to protect. Feels good to get rid of some of the rust! The welder is flux and not my fav. i prefer my gas mig at work but i'm boring a friends welder and it will do. I'm gonna try to get some thinner wire for the welder.

^ That's some nice repair. The mechanics in China will just cut out the piece and drill holes, and bolt a piece of scrap metal and seal it with window sealer..... At least that's what they did with our car..

Nice work, I hate it when people damage the underbody from just beings careless and not knowing what they are doing. The pinch welds on my mk4 now are folded, this motivates me to straighten them.

                Re: A couple of vw's.

Ok so i have been back out working on the mk1. I have been running the early shorty tail lights instead of the north american westy tail lights for 2 yrs. I have been using the cabby filler plastic plate and decided to dive into this.

Fixed a couple spots after this and then have applied a little filler to smooth it out and take away the imperferfections.

Por15 the floors, mostly where there was a bit of surface rust after i cleared it away, then used used a rust incapsulating primer, then por15 to seal it all.

And one of the daily, once mid may comes around the 225/18/40 snows come off and im going to a 215/40/18. Get just a hint of stretch on the RS4 wheels

                  Re: A couple of vw's.

I try not to do much more to the daily but since both my fog light housing lenses were cracked i decided to replace them. The drive to lake louise to go boarding during winter really took its toll on them. My work carries a lot of different led lights, i decided to go that route. As there light output is great, they produce minimal heat and have a real low amperage draw. Please excuse the use of iphone photos.

Here is old versus new. The shape and mounting is a little different.

The mount was going to be an issue making the lights sit way to far back and just not fit nicely.

I used my die grinders and smoothed down enough material to accommodate the new mounts. I aso shaved a wee bit so the light would sit better being more oval then round.

Installed. They have really good light output i'll have to find the box for the specs.

W/ Headlights. I am very happy the colour tones of the light are very very close.

I'll have to get some proper night shots.

Mk1- Right now it keeps losing it's prime so i plan on fixing that in the coming week.
I hated how much soot i was getting on the back of the car so i went for a bro truck turn down angle tip look.

                  At work

                  Headlight was killed.

I picked up some used clear non fluted as i couldn't find a match to mine.

Plan is to get jeff to do some yellow 3m on them so they look like the old 3 chamber pee bottom lights.

                          Re: A couple of vw's.

Well i ordered these up. Shout out to Bob at UrbanX. Again always being so helpful! 18x8 for the front and 18X9.5 because staggered fwd!!

                          Motley trying to be amodel.

Wheels need spline drive bolts and I couldn't locate any longer ones for spacers in town so ordered some on eBay. I threw last yrs winter tires on cause I was gonna use these for a month but don't think ill have bolts.

Anybody have their headlights apart. Either doing retrofits or Joey modded? I need to take my headlights apart to install the billet adjusters. Just nervous about heating them to take them apart. Don't want to screw them up. Would like to get in the new adjusters as I broke on the plastic ones and can't use the levelers until I fix it. Also, I imagine ill have to pull the 3m off the lenses? If anyone is interested in giving me a hand I'll buy the brewskis.

Sidenote/. About to put the bunny away for hibernation. Think ill have to out a new clutch in it. It's slipping on hard pulls...too much power lol.

I really wanted something with some concave an the rears have quite abit. They remind me of Miros with les spokes. I needed something so I wasn't swapping tires each season from the rs4 wheels.

It's tucked away for winter. Insurance comes off at the end of the month. Time to tear into it again which i always enjoy
