  • Lances MK4 2.0t

So I figured I may as well share the terrible story of luck and stupidity about myself and my car. It is a 2003 Platinum Grey 2.0L GLS. When I bought it July 2010 it had ~160,000km and was bone stock (the stock part changed pretty fast).

So here it is shortly after I first got it (tint, exhaust and silly europlate were done at this point):

After this stage I got some new headlights (E-codes with Xenon), swapped cams and put in a cold air along with some other minor goodies:

But for some silly reason decided that rear ending someone would be a nice touch, maybe change the exterior look a little? Who knows... (March 2012)

Things seemed pretty crappy at this point, but I thought to myself "hey, why not see if you can fix it yourself?" So this is when the tear down and rebuild began: (not many pictures of the work, sorry) but all pieces were bought from part outs (front bumper, hood, fender, radiator, cooling fans, and radiator support) and painting done by a friend (sadly the paint needs to be redone )

Horse stall turned into a paint booth

This brings me to another foolish thing...

After the car was off the road for a couple months it hit the roads again with new suspension(FK silverline coilovers), new wheels (that were bought before the rear ending from Colin), 4motion valence, black interior swap, a T3/T4 50trim turbo, frontmount intercooler and all the other goodies (except a rebuilt bottom end) that comes along with a turbo. Most of the turbo kit was bought used as to save money where I could and the whole install was done myself with the company of some friends when needed and wanted: (pics from home, Autounion, and at GCVW)

Thanks to mikejoe for taking these two at Auto Union (August 2012):

    At GCVW(August 2012)

Car looked like this for awhile, until crap hit the fan again (September 21, 2012)...

Car has since been fixed (huge thanks to Colin and Chris at Calgary Autoworks who have both been great help and advice); new transmission (used) an oil pan that has since already been replaced once, new subframe (used) and control arms (used), and is now back on the road. Riding on steelies since I now have to save a few hundred bucks to replace the wheel that was wrecked.

So yeah, that's pretty much it for now. Planning on getting it back to where it was and fixing some minor things here and there.
    Thanks

I honestly wish I knew what numbers I'm getting. I know I have more power than my friend who has a stock 2004.5 GLI so that puts me to at least 180hp optimistically .

            Horrible luck man, horrible.
I would hazard a guess that you are very very close to a stock 1.8t, maybe a bit faster. I don't know what your spool is like or driveability or psi you are running but from our drive out to Autounion i was catching up a bit but you were quite competitive with that other 1.8t on the drive.

I don't think I'm mechanically inclined to even attempt something like that, seems pretty complicated haha
