Re: Whipping my mama volvo...ugh VW

Well I guess I will make this my build thread.

So I got my timing belt done yesterday thanks to tirerub and martin13. The impeller on the water pump was in fact broken, so new gates belt and pump with the metal impeller. Cars running great, going to try to do the rear brakes next weekend then modding will begin.

Alright, got all my maintenance caught up for the most part. New timing belt, water pump, rear brakes, valve cover gasket and all new filters all around. Getting new sparks plugs this week. Only thing left is my SAI pump which has failed, so I will have to get around to deleting the system some time.

Oh...did I mention I got new strut mounts and bearings...wait for it...for my coils. Anyways, got the front coilovers on without a spring compressor (what a PITA). Took me way less time then my last car and on the last one we had two people and spring compressors. Only had time to do the fronts as it was between class and work.

Looks good, did you end up fixing up those silverlines like you were thinking?

The rears shouldn't take you very long, very easy to pull off as you know. Bet you could get it done in under an hour!

Dylan, should have asked, I have spring compressors you can borrow.

Yep these were the silverlines, didn't manage to get a new insert for them, but the one is still good and the other still had decent resistance in both directions so I figured what the heck. They ride way better then my concept1 (Solo-werks s1) coils even on full firm. And yep the rears took me roughly 45 mins the first time.

Darn Colin, I blame you. haha. Those would have been way easier though. I ended up just unbolting the ball joint and tie rod so it wasn't terrible. I was just about to give up, then gave it a last nudge and there it went. Need an alignment though for sure.

So I got the rears installed, took me almost as long as the fronts for some reason, but they are in. I raised the fronts to my winter height as well, but hopefully I won't have to drive my car this winter. Picked up a Eurojet SMIC and TIP so hopefully those will both be in within the next week. Next thing on the list of things to do is probably downpipe or a new trunk.

Also for those of you that tried to help me diagnose the cam position sensor code I was getting after the TB job, I got George to give me a used sensor to see if that was my issue. Luckily it was, no more CEL. Thanks for the help everyone though.

Also rolled my fenders a little. Luckily I managed not to crack the paint.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Pretty basic stuff though.

On another note, I got a friend with a good camera to take some pictures of my car. Unfortunately he thinks they have too much noise and the lighting was pretty bad. But I really like the first pic.

Also got my Eurojet SMIC installed...on the side of the road. Please forgive me for using the widow maker, but it was an unexpected install.

Now that first shot would be sex without that stooopid spoiler

My jack won't fit under my car, so I kinda have to use this until I can get the other one under. Hoping to get a low-pro jack asap.

                        And thanks for the compliments.

You have yet to learn the ways of being low. Widow maker to get it up enough for your jack, then use the real jack and jackstands.

When you get really low then your side skirts actually prevent the widowmaker from working properly and you need a low-profile jack and scored hockey puck to make it work. Unless you have air
