Re: The New Addition- MKIV GLI
Hopefully nothing too major ![Blink1](https://www.eurodrivers.ca/forums/core/images/smilies/blink1.gif)
Here's a video of the culprit of this rebuild. The Input Shaft bearing. There are 2 along the shaft, one in the casing and this one at the end. There is a poor lubrication design which causes the bearing to overheat and fail.

Pulling bearing off.

Off. Notice a bit of the plastic holding the balls in has deformed from overheating.

Cooling the shaft to shrink it a bit.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8344/8246299008_c6950772c8_z.jpg)
Heating up new bearing to expand it.

New Bearing dropped right on, new circlip installed.

Other input bearing removed.

I will have to wait for some more parts before finishing up that. Time to get started on the Shift forks. They are held together with a rivet that is known to shear off causing gears to be lost.![Huh](https://www.eurodrivers.ca/forums/core/images/smilies/huh.gif)
First I drilled the rivet out and scuffed up the joining parts.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8201/8246294136_528a603beb_z.jpg)
Put a dab of JB weld between the 2 parts and left clamped overnight.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8245224705_2c967a2153_z.jpg)
Tapped with a M8x1.25 bit.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8246290870_3b4cbef0c7_z.jpg)
Threaded in a M8x1.25x30 Grade 12.9 Bolt with a bit of red loctite.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8482/8245221719_ef317fd160_z.jpg)
Cut off the majority of the end.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8245220353_8eb1eac203_z.jpg)
Ground down the rest. I will be tack welding the end of the bolt to ensure it doesn't come out.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8059/8245264453_d2621d6aa1_z.jpg)
Then repeated with the other fork.
![](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8485/8245218675_b3dd6eed28_z.jpg)
I ordered the rest of my parts today and will be going down to the states next weekend to pick them up. I will hopefully be able to get the transmission done and back in by Christmas if all goes well.
Stay tuned!
