    Re: Cam's '05 TDI

I restarted my FX-R retrofit because the other ones I made didn't turn out the best. So I'm taking pictures as I go this time. Hopefully it'll help anyone else attempting this as well.

The problem I ran into the first time was that the projectors sat too far back on the TDI, hitting the battery and causing it to push the adjuster out thus dropping the beam. So I'm attempting to mount them from the front this time. I've ordered the shrouds but am just waiting for them to arrive before I finish up. Here's the progress so far.

i might have some odd ball headlight pieces if you need something for experimenting. One nearly complete headlight with a crappy lens and some other stuff.

Funny I was just reading about making retrofits the other night. I would make sure you place the lens on and check full adjustment to make sure the housing doesn't hit.

Yes I keep checking everything this time to make sure its ok. Triple checking alignment. I drilled the holes and mounted them permanent like on Sunday evening. Need to check one more time before fitting, trimming and attaching the shrouds (which arrived today). If all goes well they should be together and working for the weekend. More so for Sunday.

First of all I hate how aftermarket headlights and such have angel eyes now. Personally think they belong to BMW and belong on bimmer's only. That being said the aftermarket GLI headlamp reps have a city light in them, so to utilize it with my euroswitch I drilled holes in the shroud for rear mounted CCFL eyes. I test fitted to see what they would look like and realized the backs would reflect off of the remaining stock housing so I used tinfoil and silicone to block any back light and also to aid in reflecting the light through the holes better. Pics!

Too much light through the backs still so I went back and put more around the areas that were brighter.

              Re: Cam's '05 TDI

Never really been a fan of the LED shrouds but the FX-Rs are definitely a very good quality projector, especially considering how inexpensive they are in comparison to the tsx and s2k ones.

Also very good decision to mount them from the front, you NEED them super far forward. My shroud is justa few mm away from the lense and it barely gives enough room in the back so good job on triple checking :P

They're actually the e46-R extended shrouds. I just drilled the holes through the spots on them and mounted the 90mm CCFL rings behind. Ive never been a fan of LEDs in headlights either. But I do Have the DRL function on the euroswitch so I might as well utilize it.

Getting closer, test fitting to make sure that in fact the shrouds will fit with lens on. Tomorrow night I will quadrouple check the beam pattern, trim and secure the shroud and seal em up. Way happier with the outcome this time round.

                  Re: Cam's '05 TDI

Well the angel eyes didn't work behind the shroud. It pushed it too far forward, it still sits kinda far forward on the bottom but it's hidden better. Also after putting them together to check out how they look in the pic above I decided the chrome was too reflective, it showed the back of the shroud and projector too well. So I painted just the reflector part black. They're officially done though. Just waiting for the final silicone to dry before mounting and adjusting. I'm very happy with the outcome though, can't wait to see the finished product on the car.

I bought the flashzilla out right from Mark. I figured I wasn't done modding yet, adding stuff as I went so it seemed the best route. Also when I told Mark I was doing something new he'd always make me a base tune to throw on when finished just so I could drive it. Fine tuning later.

I'll take some night shots soon Colin. I had issues with my front sagging after my fmic install. Figured out this weekend the rebar was pulling my rad support down. I'll have to re adjust everything as my pattern in a little off now. But I'll get em up.

In for night shots! i usually re-fine tune my headlights every few months anyways even if nothing changes. It's always a good habit to get into
