Excited to see this finished. Should have left the side moulding lines though IMO!!! Gives the car character!

I agree about the side moldings, gives it a little bit of contrast.

either way it will look sick!

Re: Mk1 GLi - fixer upper

I wanted to keep the moldings, however I searched high and low for new ones and couldn't find anything.

              Rabbits.....lots of options
              Jetta 4 doors.......nothing.

the original moldings were F'ed and could not be salvaged.......BUT....... in person it really does look good shaved. Our body guy did a great job making a body line from nothing.

same goes for the front apron....... you cannot get a new one for a jetta to save your life, and to swap to a rabbit apron is way to much money and work as i'd need new apron, rad support, fenders, lights, etc. Again, our body guys did a great job pulling the dent.

Its going to be sick Alex. IMO you did the right thing not going with too many original parts if they were trashed - mouldings and trim and edging and markers and things should just be trashed on this level of restoration. Replace with whatever is new looking.

i know, I talked to him already. he has a rabbit and lives in the states. chances of us meeting is slim. + he chose his color a few months ago, I chose it the day the Venza came out in march 08......so technically he's copying my thoughts.

We both work for Toyota, which is how we both picked that color.
