The .:Ridiculous Journey

So as some of you know, I recently purchased an .:R32. Well its a long journey that i'm in the middle of right now. Let's begin...

We found the car on Vortex and it was in North Carolina. We flew out on Wednesday, checked the car out, and aside from a few small rock chips in the hood, the car is flawless! After signing some paperwork, we sat with the owner and had a beer. Great guy, full of that Southern Hospitality, and one hell of a VW nut. Here is a picture of one of his current projects...


We then took off for the night, and drove a few hours to a small town called Asheville NC where we stayed the first night. Woke up in the morning to turn on the car and see exactly why all the .:R owners love that "cold start" sound...I had morning wood We took off to our next destination, which was a bit of a planned detour, and really the only planned stop that was a must see. YES.......THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!!! SHAKE N BAKE!!!!!!!!!!

So needless to say, we slayed the dragon......TWICE!!! As we got to the very end, the road was closed due a rock slide, so we had to turn back and do it again, and find an alternate route for the rest of our drive. We drove another 400 miles and are just relaxin for the night in Kentucky, goin to see the colonel in the morning

Thanks for the comments guys. So to update the journey, today was a b!tch!!!!! we got quite a chunk of driving done (probably around 1100km's). Were in Nebraska right now, happy to be out of Missouri!

The weather was cloudy all day, then we got hit with a rain storm to the point that we couldnt see 3 meter in front of us. Needed gas anyways, so we took the first exit we saw and hid under the roof of the gas station until the rain (which eventually turned into light hail) finally passed by. Get back on the highway, and all we see is traffic as far as we can see going the opposite direction. Probably about 5 accidents in a 500m span, SUV's rolled over, cars in the ditch, the whole 9 yards!!! Luckily we pulled off the highway ASAP and avoided all that! Here's what it looked like about 5 mins before it hit!



Couple miles further down the highway, it starts raining bad again, so we pull over along with a bunch of other cars on the highway. We sat there for about 5 mins and decided to slowly get going with the rest of the cars. Unfortunately, someone must have blown a tire earlier and there was debris on the road. With the rain reducing visibility, I didnt have time to fully swerve out of the way and clipped the edge of the piece of tire with my wheel. All I heard was a loud THUNK under the car.........

We immediately pulled over to check everything out, and thank God everything seemed fine. There didnt seem to be any damage done to the outside or the underside of the car (will definitely be inspecting much closer when I bring her home). So if thats the worst thing that happens on this trip, I will be very happy!!! The rest of the day went smoothly enough, weather cleared up and it was a pretty decent drive. Hoping to tackle a good chunk of the drive tomorrow and be home sometime Sunday.

Now i'm not much of a photo person, but in my mind, this one is my favorite.....


These were all picture I took at TOD while letting my engine and brakes cool down (and Tracy needing her stomach to relax a bit too). There was a pretty big Mini Cooper meet going on there that day. Must have seen at least 40 or so either at the Dragon or around that area. Here's a few pics we snapped of them!






Hopefully tomorrow's weather will allow for a few more nice pics. Still yet to see another .:R on the roads though
