    Re: Alpina B10 3.5

As soon as the iphone update comes out next week ill post a pic of a brand new looking alpina i spotted in windermere. (iphone update is finally going to allow picture messaging)

Can someone fill me in as to whats so great about them. I see the ALPINA logo and just assume its a great/rare car because you dont see to many.

Sounds like the B7 that Alpina finally made available to North America last year.
Alpina is not widely known to North Americans, until recently, due to the fact they were never sold in North America. But if you mention Alpina to a European bimmer enthusiast, their ears usually perk up.
In my opinion, what makes an Alpina so great is subjective. Like any car, it's a matter of taste, but I would say it's a combination of performance without sacrificing the luxury aspect of the cars and of course their rarity.
Alpina does not consider themselves to be a tuner house, in fact, they are regisrted has a car manufacturer (they actually strike out the original BMW VIN# and will stamp their own VIN# into the passenger side strut tower.)
Alpina will take only a few cars from each class of BMW and upgrade them to their standards. For example, 572 of the Alpina B10 3.5/1 were ever manufactured, 507 of the B10 Biturbos were ever produced, and etc. One of the rarest is the Alpina B10 4.6 with only 46 ever built.
For a better understanding of the history of Alpina, check out this site.
